.30-30 AI reamer
« on: December 10, 2010, 05:33:57 AM »
The .357 Mag to Maximum chamber reamer here on GBO seems to have been quite successfull. I wonder if there would be enough interest to do the same for a .30-30 to .30-30 AI rechamber? If so, I would certainly want my name on the list. Would anyone else be interested?

There is a little more to reaming a 30-30 to a 30-30 AI than there is a 357 to Maxi.  Larry

Larry's right, but it certainly can be done by hand, several members here have done it including myself, there's more metal to remove, but it's not hard to do, just takes longer than a Maxi rechamber.  ;)

Thanks! Just a little more info on hand reaming, I also did an H&R 270Win to 270Ackley by hand, I did a chamber cast after reaming, the chamber is just .002" out of round which is probably as good as a factory chamber. IMO, as long as the reamer pilot fits the bore good and engages the bore before cutting the actually chamber, it will cut a decent chamber if you're careful and keep the reamer aligned without putting side pressure on it. I was going to do my 6.5x55 to improved, but there's so much taper to the original chamber that the reamer wasn't well centered to begin with, so I didn't do that one.
