Skinnin 'yotes

OK Boys,
Ive tried skinnin yotes several different ways now.  As in skinnin them fresh, waitin a few hours, and waitin 12 hours.  I dispatch with .22 in head.  Ive tried pluggin ears with TP....but I still get blood drippin from head gettin on the fur when I skin.  Iv also hung upside down for a while till no more blood drips...but then when I start skinnin the blood comes.

How do you others skinn without the blood messin up the fur??

Don't shoot your canines. Strike any canine on the bridge of the nose and their immediately unconsious. Then stand on their chest until their heart stops.....a few minutes. Any  3 or 4ft. stick will do it. I've done it for years.

You want the impossible Tim. If you shoot them, you are going to have blood. First thing you have to do- accept the fact that you are going to get blood on the fur and that each pelt is going to have to be washed in some degree or the other.

Make sure you place the coyote in a position where his head is downhill while you remake the set.  Hanging a yote up overnight will reduce a lot of the blood while skinning- but it better be cool or you will have a green bellied yote.

If you get a spot that really bleeds, you can wrap a paper towel arond it and hold it in place with a little duct tape. I rarely do this.  Best bet is to get faster at skinning- the less time it takes the least blood. Most pelts I take and rinse off the blood under a hose. Squeeze the water out the best you can, shake and hang up to dry overnight. A fan will hurry the drying.

Tim B,  I don't worry too much about the blood, the way i do it is after the coyote is skinned, i dunk the pelt in a bucket of cold water with some dawn dishwashing detergent in it, wring it out, dunk the pelt in a bucket of clean cold water wring out, dunk again and wring out, now take a capfull of downey fabric softner add it to a bucket of cold water put your pelt in and kind of work it a bit, wring the pelt out and let drip dry and you will have the cleanest prettiest coyote pelt you have ever seen, its 5 or 10 minutes of xtra work, but it will pay you in the long run.  fwiw  Corey
