And the best ccw weapon is !
« on: November 06, 2010, 03:01:22 PM »
No matter when you carry or what you carry for a sidearm , the best thing you can do to keep yourself and loved ones safe it to think about the risks .

I carry a handgun about 90% of the time , just no way to have one with me all the time , yet even when armed there are still places I don't go and thinks I will not do .

Bottom line is the BEST weapon that you can have to keep safe is YOUR BRAIN - use it .

I would agree, and even when packin, it's still superior to your side arm. Well. Sometimes.

100% agreed!  When I'm around others and talk about common sense and situational awareness and get the deer in the headlights look I can't help but wonder how some folks get by.  Avoiding known problem people and places is big on my list, but when I can't I make sure my eyes are wide open and I know my options.

Someone once said
" Don't go armed anyplace you wouldn't go unarmed "
What was meant by it was--don't be a hero.  If your neighbor is having a drag out fight with his/her mate
don't pick up your pistol and go running over ( don't be a hero ) Time for 911.
Don't stop to break up a fight, ( don't be a hero )------------------Time for 911.
You could take that topic to many ends, by all means defend your life or the life of someone in your close proximity.  That's why we carry isn't it ?
Yes in the world we live in you must be critically aware of your surrounding all time, it's sad but true.
If something doesn't look right it probably is not, avoid it, don't be a hero.

If you are going to carry, unfortunately it requires the one thing that seems to be lacking so much these days, COMMON SENSE! But, folks with CCW's must have more than most because foul ups are rare to nonexistant in states that have CCW. :)

In my younger days I liked to think I could “out talk a sensible man and out run a fool”…………today I still have a fairly good command of the gab, but don’t run very well.  Guess that means I will have to out shoot the fool if he can't be reasoned with.

No, seriously, I pack MOST of the time, but as mentioned the brain is the most effective weapon I carry.  I have met with several occasions where talking did the trick.

We have places here in town that all the locals know " you just don't go there " however in my line of work it is sometimes a must , I limit myself to daylight hours only and NEVER go alone .

Our biggest hosp. is right next to one of these areas so I use val-a parking , and keep my eyes open even when pulling up for that , the mall is another place to keep alert , but most people don't even give it a thought about walking out their front door , yet that is another place were bad things can happen very fast .

The fact is that life has changed for the worst in the last 10 years and I don't see it getting any better , so think before you do even the normal everyday things , it could save your life or the life of a loved one .

Agreed.

My wife says I conceal my brain pretty well too.

My brain jams a whole lot more than my gun. And it's too old to get spare parts for as well.

I hate the term "common sense." If it's so darn "common," why do so few have it?

Agree. Finding solid cover is a better option for defense. What did Bill Jordan say( father of the Model 19-Lord rest his soul ) 3 keys to winning a gunfight.... cover, cover, and cover. People blame the .38 Lead Round Nose for a poor stopper but when you are taught to leave cover to engage you target, as was the drill, any round is a poor stopper. When tactics changed then so did the effectiveness. Today, through training, I don't go anywhere in life without always looking for something solid to squat behind just in case the old lady in front of me in line just escaped death row.

Being both a life long hunter and a Vietnam Vet, awareness of my suroundings is just second nature. I often wonder what some people were thinking to put themselves into some of the situations they do. Actually they weren't thinking is my guess.

I would have to say "Muscle (or reflex) Memory"
from lots of practice. I know for a fact that
there is not much time to think in a situation when a weapon
is called for.

i totally agree..avoid as best you can haveing to use it..but do learn to use it..
it scares me to think of the people that carry for safties sake ,but have never practiced
much at all.all i can think is they believe all they see on t.v. shows..
they may get a dose of reality ,in a bad way..
