'06 Handi
« on: January 11, 2011, 03:04:12 PM »
Wound up with a 30-06 Handi, shot a few mil surps, and was surprised at how well they shot.  Who has worked up loads, and what is the most accurate bullet wt?  Hoping for 180gr, as I gotta' bunch.  That would work out well, as I can then work up some lighter weights for my .280....Been shooting 162 gr. in that.

Thanks,

Ben

Actually , the only bullet I can get to shot well out of my 06 is 180 grainers.  Have had good luck with Both Speer and Hornady   IM using H4831   and getting  great groups    sorry cant remember the exact loads right now  but mine LOVES 180s .

Congrats on the '06 Ben!! I've shot 150gr and 200gr in mine, the 150gr were Federal Fusion in my stainless 30-06, 1" at 100yds, the Ultracomp has had only one load thru it by me, 200gr Nosler partition handloads, but Mac shot it before he sold it to me using the Fusion 150gr ammo.

Dropped a nice 8 point buck directly under my tree stand this past season with my '06 Handi and a 180 grain Sierra SBT. My 30-06 Handi so far hasn't been too picky about what is run down the tube, it's my go to rifle during deer season.

GOOD SHOOTING!

Slufoot, you could have just whacked him over the head with the rifle butt and saved a round!

mechanic, Just started dabbling with my -06. So far I have tried 165 grain Speer and 165 grain Hornady. Used H4831sc with the Speer, with ok accuracy, and will continue to work with that load.

Worked up a real nice load with the 165 grain Hornady using 56 (fifty-six) grains of W760(H414 will work also) using R-P case with R-P 9 1/2M primers for all loadings.

The bullets I used were the Speer flat base spire point Hot-Cor, and the Hornady 165 grain flat base spire point Interlock.

I'm also starting to use some Ramshot Hunter also. Maybe if the weather holds I'll get a chance today to use this propellant.

My poor '06 is pouting and languishing in a gun cabinet.  I've been so wrapped up in my straight walls lately, I haven't had him out for a stroll in the park.  I've gotta do something about that soon.
