Western Bullet Co. 440 grain GC
« on: November 26, 2010, 02:18:32 AM »
One of the links here for cast bullet companies is Western Bullet Co. I've done business with them in the past on 160 gr GC bullets for my 357, 250 gr for plinking in my 45 LC and 340 gr for light loads in my S&W 500. All great bullets at a very reasonable price and one price for shipping no matter the quantity. I'm thinking of trying their 440 gr GC bullets in a heavier load in my 20 inch 500 S&W barrel on my Encore and just wanted to know if anyone here has any experience with them. Appreciate all input.

I like the bullet weight in my 500 H&R, but haven't used this exact makers bullet.

I have a LEE mold that makes a OK bullet. (Its a GC)  I have also been using Ranger Ricks bullets from Alaska with great success.

I did not use a chrony. I loaded up 20 or so ...... Did not have any issues with leading. They were near max loads but I cannot remember the magic combination. I used their .38s&w bullits as well. Those worked excellent. I have not shot the 45/70 yet and I had to sell the 45colt and my reloading set up last year. I wish I could remeber what my loads for the .500 were.

I've emailed Western twice now in a three week period to ask some questions but they haven't answered me. Sent an email off to Montana Bullets and get a quick reply. They also have testimonials on their website. I think I'll go with them and just pay a bit more. Their GC bullets have a hardness rating of 22 and some of the testimonials have pushed them over 2000 fps without any leading. Something in the 1800 - 2000 fps range will suit me fine. I'll still buy my plinking bullets from Western when I need some more but my next batch of bullets I want to push hard will come from Montana Bullets.
