if a serial # starts with a s, i assume it is a stainless frame.   how about if it starts with an a?  armour alloy?

Where can I find the year that matches serial numbers for other Contenders?  I am told mine is an old model, but I would like to know when it was made.  Thanks.

thanks guys.  went to the gun shop today and he had a stainless frame with the full cougar etching on it.  i started to drool;  and work a trade,  and figured i better do my homework first.  so i asked for the serial number so i could dig a bit.  i thought, oh boy when i saw it started with an "a".   thats ok, though; he also had a 410 21 inch barrel stainless that i picked up.     i think i got a deal.     anyhow,  thanks for prompt reply folks!!!

Thanks, Kyode.  Now I know.  A spring chicken compared to most of my other guns, but much older than the clerk at the gun shop.  I appreciate the information.
