308 handi gets the job done
« on: December 09, 2010, 02:17:23 AM »
Finally sucess in the PA woods last night.  Had a doe sneek in on me last night not 10 minutes after I got set up in an old horse stable on the ground.  Shee came around the end of the stable where I had just walked in from and stopped  a whole 7 yards from me and looked right at me. Well since I had a doe tag, I let the lead fly.  Yep, shot her right in the face.  Well although it was a little messy, there was no tracking job and no meat ruined.  Sure glad I put the time in at the range worring about minute of angle at 100 yards ::).  She should be good eating.  Nice little plump doe.

Funny thing though, she smelled bad!  By bad I mean musty like she was in heat.  After talking with another hunter I think it is time for the so called "second rut".  She certanily smelled like it anyway.

Sorry no pics, quite messy.
If you can't be a good example, then you'll just have to serve as a horrible warning.

The early bird may get the worm, but the second mouse gets the cheese!

Congrats, anyways i think there is a secont rut going on. We were hunting the opening day and hit one of those little bleat calls. First 3 little buck, a y buck and two spikes came out . It was my first buck and my dad told me to shoot the bigger one. I held off cause i didnt want a small one. Well hit the call 10 minutes late and after 5 min 2 8pointers came out and me and my dad both shoot em. This is in PA, private land, Well my buck went 15 1/2 and my dads went 16 1/2 inches wide.  Oh by the way i used a 243 and my buck didnt take a step.
