I'm suprised there was no interest in this at all.  I had planned to try and photograph some other cannons in the area.

Interest in what? Some pictures that have no explanation.

How about telling us some thing about it or tell us what you would like to know about it?

I was actually suprised to find it as it's not easy to see.  Any idea what kind of gun it is?

Swampman posted 4 pictures with a mysterious tile and no narrative. After receiving no response for a month he posted this:

I'm suprised there was no interest in this at all.  I had planned to try and photograph some other cannons in the area.

So I responded:

Interest in what? Some pictures that have no explanation.

How about telling us some thing about it or tell us what you would like to know about it?

Then the post gets reported to the moderators with this comment.

"Cryptic replies by moderators are detrimental to encouraging participation in this forum."

I fail to see what is cryptic about my response.  Now the Original post that is cryptic.

There is nothing cryptic about asking what the OP wants to know or is trying tell us.

I had looked at the photos in early November, thought "Cool." and moved on. No context, no idea what the OP was getting at so I left it to others.

I replied, but I wrote it in invisible ink.  I wanted to keep the mystery going. :D

With over 150 views, there is interest.  As DD said - start the conversation with a few words, perhaps a question, ...

Can't say much about it other than the obvious - iron, much corroded, and on public display.

Well there you have it a rusty cannon.  Who would have thought?

The Letter P might be a clue.  Where it is also might be a clue or at least a place to star looking.

Bore diameter?  Length of the tube?

I got relatives down there.
Who is it pointed at?

The cannon is located near the address in the title.  I'd guess the bore was about 4" and the tube was at least 6".

We love it, but it sure cuts into my toy money.  The odd thing about the cannon, is that's like a little alley that leads down to the water where some huge boats are parked it seems almost like private property.  I'm pretty sure it's an original tube.  A few years ago they were doing some street work in Pensacola and they found an 18th c. cannon tube.  The original city workers had run the water pipes around it rather than fool with moving it.

Pensacola probably has at least 25 cannons on public display in various parts of the city.  Some are fairly large.  There are 2 at city hall that have carriages that seem barely large enough to support them.
