Holster for Redhawk Hunter???

I just picked up a blue Redhawk Hunter 7 1/2"  I need a holster for.  May or may not be for scoped use.  I am concerned about wearing the bluing off though.  Any suggestions???

  If you bought this with intentions of using it, especially for hunting and you're worried about wear...well, you bought the wrong gun for the wrong reason.   If you bought the gun for hunting, it's basically a tool of the trade.  It will get wear. 
  As far as a holster when scoped, only one's I can think of are the bandolier type.  Not my thing as their either nylon (puke) or leather.  Another choice would a sling and have swivel studs installed.

Oh...I'm going to use it..a lot.  But that's no excuse to needlessly wear all the bluing off.  I thought someone might have a recommendation...like a holster maker that they had used...you know.. a name maybe?  I plan to carry it, in fact,  we have open carry here and it'll look killer (no pun intended) when I'm riding my bad motor-sickle.  I have a Marlin .44 in a scabbard I lug around on it.   No it ain't a Harley....

Get a holster that fits snug.
If you get a loose one you will not rub as much removing it from the holster but it will slip nad slise around inside all day and rub it all over.
a snug holster will only touch the gun in some locations and will be normal wear.  You also will not be doing hundreds of hours of draws over the life of the gun but will carry it for hundreds of hours on your hip.
If you scope the gun and it becomes a primary hunting gun then you are going to carry it and have a holster for after the hunt or other break when you would use a sling on a rifle or lean it against a tree or cross a stream or fence line.
Other wise it will be in your hands- You will not out draw and hit a deer, bear, or pig in the woods.

Google Simply Rugged Holsters.  Don't have one myself but have heard of a number of happy users - and his work is leather.   Have heard of others out there too but can't recall the names right now.

You might want to check out Galco.  I think that I am going to buy a Kodiak for my Super Blackhawk Hunter.  IMO these holsters are a bit pricey, but just might be the most handsome out there.  I maintain if you are not really a good hunter, you can always look good huntin'.  ;D.http://www.usgalco.com/HolsterPG2.asp

Hey Joe

I found Wes Daems in Montana to make my holster.  This guy is an avid hunter and makes his living by hand-building holsters and other leather work.  You will deal only with the owner, builder (Wes) when dealing with his company.  The only time I get someone else (Wes's wife) is when Wes is hunting!

Go to his site and click on "Chest Holster".  http://www.7xleather.com/chest_holster   This is what I bought.  It is the most secure, most comfortable and conveniently located holster we've ever used. 

One of us always carries our Redhawk for safety, on our hog hunts down here in wicked-thick country.  This holster has no real competition in my opinion for cost and functional performance.  And, the fact that you are dealing with a fine man, a serious hunter and, a leather craftsman of great skill makes it a win-win-win situation.

I have never met Wes.  I get no compensation of any kind from Wes or his company.

Another great option is Diamond D custom leather out of Wasilla, AK    http://www.diamonddcustomleather.com/   Very good quality and custom formed chest holsters.  I own one for my Redhawk and it is a super nice holster.  I have looked at lots of custom leather holsters over the years and finally found one that works.

Buy a leather lined and fitted holster.
Bianchi, Ross Leather, Galco, and others build quality lined holsters.

Check around at "country" gun dealers, because often found is a box of good used holsters, and You just may find what You're looking for at 1/2 or less pricing.
