Stock interchangeability
« on: December 06, 2010, 03:25:38 AM »
I am getting started on taking an old H&R Model 1900 12 gauge and doing a stub up to fit it with a new 50 cal muzzle loading barrel. The receiver is good and tight and I think it will make a nice gun when I'm through. All I have is the Mod 1900 barrel and receiver, no stock. My question is how close are the old model stocks to the newer ones? I suppose I could make one, but had just as soon get a semi inlet or the like if possible. My goal is to have a nice looking sort of classic when done so I do want a good fit between the metal and the wood.

Thanks,
Bill

Modern frames are totally different, there's no tang like on your frame, Boyd's may have the right stock for your frame, but a modern stock might work with some good wood working skills.

Thanks for the link to Boyd's. Those round tang stocks look close enough get a good fit up if they left enough wood to work with. The write up sounds as if they did leave some wood.
