Dandy Don Meredith died today. Football player, sportscaster, actor,and clown We have lost one of the best there ever was.

Yes we did! Dandy Don was the last of the Dizzy Dean type sports casters. Along with his knowledge of the football game, he brought humor to it as well. May he RIP

Watching him play made me a Cowboys fan but I liked him better as an announcer on Monday Night Foot Ball. My only TV option in those days was an antannae and ABC was my worst channel. Couldn't even get it during the day but it was watchable at night usually but it was always snowy. I would put up with it just because of Dandy Don. I would especially enjoy it when he would let the wind out of Howard Cosell's sails when he would do one of his lectures.

There are a million Meredith stories---some are only appropriate for the age in which they occurred---I love 'em all.
The one I like the best was the day Sam Huff put his helmet in Dan's chest and drilled him in the ground.
Dan was wearing a rib-protector that was filled with water & red coloring.
When Huff got off Dan he saw the red die on Dan's uniform and was horrified.
Dan said--"Huff look what you have done now---youv'e killed me."

When His father asked him why he chose SMU, Dan replied--"It is easy to spell".

Confident/cocky, life was a ride--and Landry rode him hard---too hard in fact, he quit after 8 years because it was no longer fun.
More guts than most linebackers.
