Why do they still do this stupid stuff.
« on: December 22, 2010, 07:29:04 AM »
Today the neighbor was telling me, he heard 3 or 4 High power rifle shots close to his house early this morning. 3AM. I went out on the four-wheeler, and rode around my property as well as his; I saw the fresh man  tracks in the snow, but no Blood or shell casings.
Two things that make this really stupid, other than being illegal as hell.
These nuts were shooting less than 50 yards from his house at night, and this is 2B, Doe comes back in next week, and you can get as many Doe permits as you want.
The Neighbor called the Game commission, I do not know what was said, but he said they were not much help.
Not much to go on I guess, you would think the new poaching law would have put a damper on this stupid crap.

I don't think you will ever put a stop to it. My father had an uncle and a cousin that were probably the two biggest poachers in the damn county. Dad did say they used the meat though. One had 5 kids the other 4. They ate venison year round.

In Va. the game dept sets up decoy deer , I have seen them on the side of the road and they look very real some move like live deer . They are made from real deer skins and head mounts . I think alot of shooting deer at night stopped after people started getting caught . But it still happend some.
If ya can see it ya can hit it !

May have been hunting for coyote, which is legal at night in PA.  I do it myself all the time.  Does not excuse being that close to a house, or not having permission.

Looking at the tracks, it looks like a set of man tracks and a women or kid, They were not hunting Coyote or Fox, My neighbors house is about 300 yards back off the road, but were they came out on his drive way and shot, they were less than 50 yards from the house with a full moon. Looking at the tracks, you can see were they hid in the woods when his lights came on. He said the shots were all close together, and a High power rifle. He is a hunter and knows the difference between a shotgun and large rifle.
Ridding around the properties, the only other tracks I saw were Deer. Following the man tracks out, they parked a car at the Gas well, walked straight into the clearing by his house. He is single and just got back from a hunt in Montana. I think someone must have done this once before and got away with it, thinking no one lived there went back for a repeat performance.

A guy in my hunt club had a hog shot . He caught the guy who claims he was shooting at a deer and didn't see the hog  ;) . When all was said and done he paid a small fine , paid a little for the hog which had to be kept for evidence and was no longer good and couldn't hunt for a year.

In my area here in ny 6c,dec set up there fake deer and one day they tried setting it up on state hunting land trying to catch people shooting from the road, well one guy stopped got out of his car walked off the side of the road and shot it several times while the law was watching, the man was all legal up until he quit shooting senseing something wierd he picked up a beer can from the edge of the road and threw it at the fake deer, the law came outta the woods and checked his licence which was valid and issued him a ticket for littering even though the can was already on the ground what a crock. They should have told him what they were doing and ask him to move on since he really didnt do anything wrong imo.

There are lots of old tales like that here also most are BS. One is a young boy was the only person this old farmer allowed to hunt his place. The deer was set up on the farmers land to  catch people hunting posted land. seems the kid skipped school , crawled this ditch to get close and destoried the decoy with a shot.
A problem here is some judges feel its entrapment .

They do it around here also. One day I looked out and saw a hunter standing next to my electric fence with my three horses standing just on the other side of the fence watching him. 20 feet from my deer feeder and Just 40 yards from my house. I went out to run him off and he gave me a bunch of crap about only shooting in the other direction anyway. When I asked him for his license he got all huffy, cussed me and practically ran through the woods. I went back in to call the game commission but by the time I found the number he was long gone. The game commission never got back to me but, I'm sure they never found him. I have no Idea where he may have been parked and all the land around me is private and the owners allow no one or only family to hunt.

As for the "mechanical deer", Yes they still use those also. The Unified Sportsmans Asso. sometimes donates them to the PGC. They did just have another one shot beyond repair and the Unified Sportsmans Ass. is going to buy them another one. Price?,,,,, About $1,000 for the body portion of the decoy. Not sure if this is a standing or bedded down version.
