obama reverses decision on oil well drilling.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (The Blaze/AP) — President Barack Obama‘s administration won’t allow any new oil drilling in the eastern Gulf of Mexico for at least the next seven years because of the BP oil spill.
A senior administration official told The Associated Press on Wednesday that drilling leases won’t be considered in the waters off Florida as part of the change. He spoke on condition of anonymity because the decision hadn’t been announced yet.
He said that because of the BP spill, the administration now understands the need to elevate safety and environmental standards. Before the spill, the administration had considered a plan to allow drilling in the eastern Gulf.
According to the New York Times, drilling would remain under a moratorium “until stronger safety and environmental standards were in place.”
Drilling can continue in the central and western Gulf, however only under a set of new safeguards that were put in place after April’s BP oil spill.
The decision reverses a decision in March to open up more of the Gulf to offshore drilling.
Interior Secretary Ken Salazar is expected to discuss the decision later Wednesday afternoon.

This is not a "flip Flop". This is a well aimed well time shot at the American economy.  The U.S. is being driven to a State controled Capitalist system.  This is the same type of Government we see in China and India.  The European nations are also following the lead toward a modified sociallist state.  Two things first Obama's base is getting weak, he must attack some private Capitalist.  The evil oil companies will be the next GM government financed and owned portion of the economy.  Most of the investments in U.S. oil is drying up.  The oppressive rules that Obama has put in place on Western lands drilling and production is shutting down more wells every day. The Federal Govt. is the largest owner of oil reserves in the world.  Obama and other socialist leaders feel ownership and control of these reserves should belong wholly to the Federal system.  The end results will be a very weakened corrupt goverment owned Oil & Gas company run by public servants.  All you need to do is look at the South American oil fields and production that was taken over by left wing socialist.

Nazi Germany was a one party ruled controled capitalist state also.  They took over one of their aircraft companies in 1936 because the owner wouldn't make bombers.  The owner died and they immediately took over the company.  They converted their commercial passenger aircraft to one of their WWII bombers.  China has one party rule.  India is multi-party and actually more capitalist.  Some economists say they will eventually pass China because they are more set up like we used to be.

You know, Eisenhower put the oil on government lands off limits for a stategic reserve in case we had another major war.  He also started OPEC so we could buy the Arab oil cheaply and hold ours in reserve.  The Arabs got smart and nationalised their oil fields and raised the prices.  Another pet peeve of mine is we have an 800 year supply of coal that could be converted to synthetic oil.  We have a 200 year supply of natural gas already drilled, and a 200 year supply of oil on government land.  We need to be using natural gas in vehicles as well as synthetic diesel from coal.  Stop importing oil.  The reason oil companies were drilling off shore is the ocean isn't owned by anyone and there are no environmental and ownership problems installing the collection pipelines under water to onshore refineries.  Drilling on government land requires permiting, environmental, etc. IF you can get a permit.  We can put all fleets of government vehicles like buses, garbage trucks, etc on natural gas and cut up to 40% of the imported oil.  This can be done in less that 5 years.  It just takes conversion kits an a compressor station.  Our research shows the conversions and the compressor station pays for itself if you have over 20 vehicles.  Natural gas has a range on our F-150's of about 100 miles at speeds of up to 85mph.  It takes 15 minutes to fill one up.  This is much better than electric.

We need to build nuclear power stations (modular like European) for our power.  Then use coal for our oil, and natural gas.  It takes about $2500  to convert a truck to natural gas.  However GM and Ford were making them right off the assembly line a few years ago at the same price as a regular truck.  Compressed bottles cost more than a gas tank, but you don't need a catalytic converter thus offseting costs.  Oil companies do not want to put compressors at their service stations unless they are guarenteed enough customers to sell the CNG.  Compressed natural gas (CNG) sells for $1.37 per gallon right now in Alabama.  hmmmmm.

RR and DD, both of your posts taken together pretty well paints the picture of whats going on. If this nation does nationalize anything it should be "across the board" to include property held by foreign entities/persons. I do agree that we should go to nuclear power. Ng and alcohol burning cars will never catch on here IMO. Even with the introduction of flex-fuel vehicles how many stations have alcohol based fuel for sale??

Pat/Rick I agree on the Nuclear.  Here in Wyoming we used to mine a great deal of Yellow Cake.  Mr. Clinton and the Left Wing put a stop to U.S. mining companies mine operations. Funny thing, they sold claims to the French, Germans, and Japan. Now the last of these claims is being sold to Russia.  It is not making news outside of the Mtn, states. Obama an his Chicago Mafia claim the Russians have promised to not use it against the U.S. military.  Damn and we thought Carter sold us out.

This is simply a strategic move on a chess board.  Big oil doesn't want to change a single safety or environmental rule.  They want drilling/business as usual--full speed ahead.  The president is determined to NOT have another oil spill disaster on his watch.  Big Oil won't change, so fine--no more drilling in the eastern gulf.  Your move, BP, Exxon-Mobil, etc., etc.

Ah Jr. you are a product of our protected elite.  America can not and will not remain a powerful nation without taking risk.  This nation needs power produced with in its own borders.  We have let the scare tactics of every sort of Inviro damage stop this progress.  These terrible Oil Companies propelled a powerful U.S. economy and saved the world thru 2 great wars.  Say Jr., Who put more food on the world tables and supplied fuel and weapons to stop Hitler and the Riech.  Would it have been Green Peace or Amoco???

Amoco of course.  RR, most of my family and lots of my friends make their livings directly for the oil industry.  I'm not anti-oil company by any stretch of any imagination.  I'm not anti-drilling for oil.  In fact, if there's oil beneath the Washington Monument I say drill for it.  However, big oil is big greed, and big greeds like BP think they have enough or even too much offshore regulation.  The recent BP disaster proves they don't.  Until big oil changes its greedy ways, expecially for deep well drilling, I say tell them to stick to land and shallow water drilling until they get their s--t together.  The president is spot-on this time.

RR, they may have promised not to use against the USA but............ Wasn't it just last week the russians were threatening a new arms race? That would have made the deal fall through have we had a real American in office.

Junior, the only ones playing chess are our future and present enemies. The collective gooberment of the US can't get past playing checkers. King me!

Most of those screaming against drilling offshore, refining anywhere, or developing nuclear power would scream just as loud if energy was to be found in belly button lint. They are contrary liberals, they are the same ones who tried to tear this nation apart with their bravo Sierra riots in the sixties and sadly are the ones no who are in office. (I knew I should of stomped a few more hippies butts back then). And most of them are the same ones arguing that a certificate of live birth is the same as a birth certificate in their feeble charade to further damage this nation.  I wonder who's going to protect them, if those who didn't riot in the sixties start rioting in the twenty first century?

Pat/Rick so true.  I look out my east window from which you can see for over 20 miles of the Red Desert.  Now days the scene is cluttered with wind mills.  The wind mills do very little power wise.  The ranchers get government payment of $40,000 for each mill per year.  One ranch here has over 100 units and will be building more this year.  These wind mills are big and loud.  They have forced big game migration Elk, Moose etc. to change routes.  The animals in this case have moved toward Interstate 80 are being killed by the hundreds.  The eagles are being killed by the piles.  You hardly see a bald eagle any more.  Now the Enviro Wackos  like Jr. who are anti-business claiming its stock holders greed causing the problems are going nuts.  This is out of control government attacking businesses with taxpayers dollars.  The Oil and mining companies are helping to pay for this crap thru high mineral severance taxes that are placed on drilling.  Talk about greed if an oil company here in Wyoming was killing animals the way the Federal funded wind mills Jr. and his friends would go nuts.  The great thing is now the Enviro Nuts are working to stop the building of more wind mills.  These are the Anti OIl company nuts who started all this.  The loss of jobs in drilling and the mines have been painful.  Now hugh profits go into the pockets of the Land Barons who supported the Obama Mafia. Jr. who is greedy???
