Stoeger Uplander double firing
« on: September 24, 2010, 04:04:25 PM »
Stoeger Uplander. Single trigger.
Shoots feather light loads fine. When using anything heavier (bulk value pack ammo) double fired all but 3 rounds out of 3 boxes.
What gives?

Firing pin return spring broken in your 2nd barrel maybe?  Perhaps the recoil is throwing it forward allowing it to protrude enough to set off the second barrel.  I'm no smith, but just voicing a thought.  8(

It's more likely that there is a problem with the sear on the second trigger, or both.  I've not looked at a schematic, but you may need some stronger springs.

Springs or sears were my thoughts. Gun is a friends. Haven't looked at it personally. Its brand new. Curious to see how it transfers between barrels.

I went thru 2 20ga and 2 12ga Uplanders for this same reason. When I got the 5th one back, I never shot it, just sold it at the next gunshow.
I know guys who've had the Uplanders and didn't have any problems, but they all had double triggers. There are a few folks at my range that shoot the StageCoach guns in Cowboy matches but again these are double triggers.

The sears just need propper harding and you can get a can of the stuff from Brownells. All the Spanish guns from the sixties and seventies had the same problem

I've got a Stoeger "coach gun" that just went back for a second attempt at fixing it for the same problem. It double fires 100% of the time. The first time they replaced about half the parts in it and test fired it. I know they test fired it because the barrels were dirty, but as soon as I tried it, with light loads btw, it double fired.

It is not a protruding firing pin... both hammers are dropping when it is fired. When dry firing, it works just fine.... one hammer fall for each trigger pull.

My problem gun has a single trigger. I have a double trigger version of the same gun that works fine. I don't know why it would be any different, as the sear and hammers are basically the same in both guns as far as I can figure. From what I am reading though, most of the problems are with their single trigger guns. If they offer me a new gun this time, I am going to ask about another double trigger version.
