scope bases and / or rings
« on: October 08, 2010, 11:25:10 AM »
I have a Bernadelli combo gun and would like to put a scope on it.  It has a flat topped dove tail rib  near the breach about 6" long, it measures about 11.2mm across the top of the rib.  I'm looking to put a Leupold 1x4x20mm scop on it so it can be mounted very low.  Any suggestions?

Do you know where you combo was made?

I used B-Square 11mm dovetail rings on a Baikal but the dove tail was 11mm.  Rings with the dovetail mounts are typically sold by the airgun dealers in the USA.  My rings never had an issue.

The question is in the dovetail 11mm if so let me know I can look up the brands rings with the 11mm dovetail mount I used

I have a Bernardelli combo 2000 and I initially used some airgun rings but they seeme flimsy to me. I found a set of CZ rings for a CZ 452 11MM
dove tail. Can't find the name of the supplier now. But I installed the rings with the front one snug e against the foreward end of the grove and have been satisfied with them. One could also drill a recoil stud in the rear most ring to match up with the Bernardelli recoil stud cutout.. Also the quick detach valmet ring and base would work with the relocation of the recoil stud farther to the rear, but those are over 200 bucks versus about 50 for the CZ rings. Just checked and got them from Budsgunshop.com
Hope this  helps.

Thanks for the info.

I was concerned that the 11.2mm rib wouldn't work with the 11mm CZ rings.  I also found that Conetrol makes a base that works with the 11mm rib. and looks like I can tap the rear base and install a fillister head screw to fit in the recoil cut out on the  rib.

As long as you are willing to drill and tap the rib, you might as well get a Weaver base for the Marlin 336 and drill and tap the rib for it.  I've got one on my Spartan combination gun and it works very well with low rings.

The Conetrol bases clamp to the rib.  The fillister head screw would screw into the bottom of the base and project into a small cut out in the rib and keep the base from sliding forward under recoil.  No plans to tap the rifle.  I have a 24V 223/20ga and 219 22H that have Weaver bases on them and it works very good, I just can't bring myself to start drilling holes in this gun unless it's the last resort.

UPDATE

Found a set of Med Weaver  Rimfire steel ring that are cut small enough to fit this rib.  I turns out that this is a taperred rib 11.3 in front to 11.2 in back.  There is a slot in the very rear of th rib for a recoil lug on the bottom of the ring to fit in.  I tapped the bottom of the rear ring and put a 6x32 allen head screw in it , had to turn the head slightly to fit the slot. It hold zero very well even with the used of heavy buckshot loads.  Works well for me.

AWS,

nice setup and nice picture.

Are you going to post a pic of your gun in the combo picture thread?

Also, that picture would be a great addition to pictures of game taken with a combo or drilling thread...

I am glad you were able to scope your gun...
