cabelas has nikon 2-7 shotgun scope on sale for $95....is this the way to go, or weaver 1-3 for 175, vx-1 for 199, or vx1 1-4  for 240, or simmons 4x for 60.....its going on a 45-70

The NIKON 2x7 is a good scope, that's what is on my 44mag handi. Heck that price, I may buy a spare one.

ain't nut'n wrong wif that simmons, make sure it has the rear eyepiece focus, pro-diamond reticle and is rated
shotgun class.
i have 5 of these on various big bores and they have held up fine for 3 years and lotsa shoot'n

The nikon works fine on the .500 and .405 win. I would go for it.

I had the low end Nikon (Buckmasters??) on my NEF 45/70 and the recoil killed it.  The guy at Cabelas was absolutely amazed that the Nikon had issues with the recoil so it may have been an isolated incident.  The bad news was that I missed 3 deer with it before I figured out it was the scope and not me, and the good news is that they upgraded me for free to a better Nikon (3-9x Slugger now with BDC)..

Nice scope though vx-1 for 199,Have two of them and they are nice scopes or vx1 1-4  for 240,Yuup a good scope or simmons 4x for 60.no info....its going on a 45-70

The Redfield Revolution is a nice scope 2-7x33 for 129 dollars. Don't know if it will take a lot of recoil. Godd question to ask the folks at Leupold where they are made

I have a Nikon pro staff 2X7X32 shotgun scope on my manlicher 45-70 and a simmons pro diamond master series 4X32 on my other 45-70. Both are great scopes. i've pick up 3 or 4 of the simmons pro diamonds here on th optics classifieds for $50 or less.
