30-30AI load data
« on: December 07, 2010, 06:21:46 AM »
Got my new 30-30AI barrel and fire formed some cases last weekend.  Dies are on the way as well as a new RCBS press and I am looking for some load data.  I have seen that 125 NBTs over 33gr of IMR4198 is a great load but do any of you have any other suggestions.

That 33 gr load is a top load for that bullet and powder so please work up to it.All barrels are different. Look for signs of pressure. Go slow. The AI is very versitle and there are many powders that work well. You'll like it

Thanks Shortgun, I knew that about the 33gr load but the heads up is greatly appreciated anyhow.  I was planning to start at about 30gr for that load as a starting point.  Do you think that is a good place to start?

32 grs IMR4198 should be an OK starting place with 125 gr BT's in the 30-30AI. What I would do is load one round at 32 grs and shoot it and see if you get pressure signs. If you don't then go to 32.5 and do the same thing. Then do the same thing with 33 grs. If you get no signs of pressure with the 33 gr load then I would load up a few and try them for accuracy. This load seems to shoot very well in a lot of 30-30AI's I know it sure does in mine.

I hope the data I sent you helps you out.

Shot 1, the data you sent is a big help.  Planning to get some of the IMR4198 and start there.
