There are so many flintlocks that are right handed, and very few left handed models.  I would like to buy another flintlock (right handed) but is there a danger in using, shooting it left handed.  I also had a kit in mind but they are even scarcer in L/H models.

You don't say what type of gun you want, but I think Track of the Wolf offers a few left handed kits and Tennessee Valley Arms offers a number of left handed guns both in kit form and as finished firearms. They're both great folks to deal with.

I reference to your original question, No it is not dangerous for a left hand shooter to shoot a right hand shooting flintlock or vice versa. When your shooting a double barrel flintlock, which are rare, it's the same principle. By all means, use shooting glasses, when shooting any firearm though. The good Lord only gave ya one set of eyes, so take care of 'em. RR :D

Thanks!

Flashguards are available from a number of sources. They attach with the frizzen screw and are required by most re-enactment societies. It's surprising how much hot gas comes out of that tiny vent when you touch off a flinter! I made  my own flash guard once out of what I thought was pretty stout sheet brass---the first shot bent it out at a ninety degree angle. You live and learn.

All you gotta do is plug up that little hole the gas comes outta and there won't be a problem.  I guess :?

Good point. And you won't have to put up with that loud noise and all that smoke coming out of the front end of the gun. Probably reduce recoil too.

Ok thanks for all the good info. I am really new at muzzle loading so this is greatinfo. I did as suggested and just plugged the hole, small sheetmetal screw did the trick.

My hubby & I got a friend of ours into flintlock shooting. He's a southpaw such as yourself. He would shoot our flintlocks (right hand versions) left handed and never had any problems.

Thanks for the info, this is what I expected but until hearing from you and others I wasnt willing to take the risk. This opens a wider choice in my future purchases.
