As the moderator of this forum, I have received complaints regarding this particular thread.  I have reviewed this thread, and I have deleted certain posts.  I believe in freedom of speech, but I also want all posts to be civil, and I do not want any posts to be inflamatory.  If a member does not agree with a post, then that does not give that person the right to insult the person who wrote the post.  If any member wants to insult a poster, then, if anything, do so via PM, NOT on this Board.  Remember, there are several people, including younger children, that read these posts.

Let me point out a couple of things.  Only the  government is prohibited from infringing on your right to to free speech.

Free speech doesn't mean you can say anything you want anytime you want.

The guarantee of free speech does not prohibit  GBO from making rules for good civil communication.  GBO is not the government and can regulate free speech on this board.

One of the terms of use on GBO is that flaming is prohibited here, it does not matter why it is is done, it is not acceptable conduct.  If you are frustrated with what another poster writes, do not insult them, that is flaming and for that you may be banned from  GBO at Graybeards discretion.

You may attack another persons argument-best done with facts, but you may not attack the person.

Remember in a debate you are not trying to convince your opponent-you will never do that, you are trying to convince your reader.  Often your opponent statements by themselves are enough to convince the reader you are right.

Yet, implying I am a liar is acceptable???  I do recall GB's reaction when someone implied he was less than truthful.  Much like GB, my honor and integrity mean something to me too.  Likewise, our founding fathers who created this country were also men of honor.  They were men who found false accusations intolerable, and wouldn't stand idly at their issuance.

Accordingly, I do admit some of my responses were sophomoric, and  I apologize to any I have offended.  However, I have never experienced such a bold accusation and defamation of character on any internet venue.

Hence, if defending my honor gets me banned, c'est la vie.

Where I come from, you may call me many things, but to call me a liar is a personal affront.

I don't know if the Rem 700 triggers are poorly designed, or faulty, or whatever. I do know that their triggers are poorly adjusted at the factory. In the last 4 years i have looked at and dry fired 12-16 different new Remington 700s, and they all had poor trigger feel, they were all too heavy, creepy, etc. They all needed adjustment, and that  was not well designed, because adjusting is not safe and simple. I stopped looking at the 700s.
I bought a Sako. It needed nothing but ammo and scope. The trigger adjustments are fool proof, but there is no need for adjustment. The trigger is perfect. I also bought a Winchester 70, and had a Timney trigger installed and adjusted by a reputed gunsmith.
I would not use a 700 as is, i would have a good gunsmith install a good trigger.

I think many of us own Remington 700's, and most of us have never had a problem.

The point was made that 1% would show a problem, thus, leaving 99% that won't.

That said, there are enough people who claimed to have had misfires, or rather, unintended firing, that the issue is getting harder to ignore and I refuse to believe they're all liars.  There has to be some truth in the matter, and Remington apparently believes the issue is insignificant.  Maybe the truth is somewhere in the middle?

Frankly, I have always had a gunsmith smooth and tune my triggers, almost without exception.

I guess the thing to keep in mind is to always keep the muzzle pointed in a safe direction, regardless of who the manufacturer might be.

Very well said .
I personly feel triggers should be done by a smith who has experiance with the brand . Not some one in the back of his shop with a beer in one had and screw driver in the other . This is what remington has a problem with -as so many guns that do have a problem are first BUBBA'd at home , then go after Remington to repair them.

I turned in my own rifle after it had a AD and remington repaired it no cost to me . Nothing had been done to the gun as far as trigger work went . I did have a gun smith lighten the trigger pull after remington did the repair and was happy with it as long as I kept it .I was a bit nervous  keeping that rifle . But in the last few years started to buy the product again and am pleased so far .

Now Swampy swears there has never ever been a problem with any Remington . Just to prove it he is now buying Winchesters . Next thing he tell us that none of the safetys are stiff to slip off .
And toyoto never had any recall's . We are always making this up.

Apparently it is a shooter problem.

Swampy,

Honestly, you will in all probability need to rebarrel the winchesters with a premium barrel if you want them to shoot, remingtons have always had better factory barrels than winchesters in my experience.

Not trying to start a fight with you Winchester guys, just stating my opinion based on experience. If you want hunting accuracy then the winchesters will work, but if you want less than minuite of angle groups buy a Remington or several other brands like Sako that are known for their accuracy. There is a reason Jack O. Rebarreled his model 70s.

It can only happen if

a) The rifle has been tampered with.
b) The rifle has not been maintained properly.
c) Someone is touching the trigger when they take the safety off.

This is and has been a lot of Bull .

It is only your opinion and as far off the rock as any one can get . Give it up!!

That was about 1% for some models.  Others, like the M600, had closer to a 50% rate according to Remington.
