« on: December 18, 2010, 03:43:18 PM »
I have been shooting the 180gr speer fp bullets with good results. I saw where hornady has the 357 flex tip 140gr bullets has anyone tried them and what are your thoughts on them thanks

I have not tried the 140s.  I shoot almost exclusively the 180 XTPs
A couple years ago, I ran out of those bullets and had to shoot a 180 spire point sillohuet bullet from Hornady.
Shot an antelope at 90 yards with that bullet.
There was a 35 cal hole in and out, no expansion.

I have loaded up a few different loads with them and have yet to find one that shoots well from my barrels...

My hunting load is a Hornady 180 SSP bullet, AA1680 powder and a SR primer.

I have shot many bullets, your Speer 180 works well too. as does my second choice the 180 XTP. Another one I like very much is the Speer 170 GDSP bullet.

With only one exception(150REM SPCL, long disscontinued), I've never had a light bullet shoot well in the Max. My "Go To" load is identical to CW's....sometimes I use a little squirreled away WW680, but they're close.  Another good bullet, when you can find it, is the 180REM HP....cheaper too!  ;)

I talked to the guys at Hornady they said the max velocity for the 140gr flex tip is 1900 fps they will "blowup" if they are running any faster.

I wanted to to try the flex-tip bullets in a few guns myself. From what I have found they are just to light in your bigger magnums. In calibers like 357Max,445Supermag,460S&W.What I have seen with lighter bullets in these calibers they just blow up on deer. That is if you hit something solid like a front shoulder.
