Need help finding rings for a 700 LA
« on: December 21, 2010, 11:49:26 AM »
Im trying to mount a new Nitrex 3x9x42 scope to my 700 .270.Ive used weaver #35M and #36M 2 pc bases.Im using weaver quad lock medium for rings. As there are only one way to mount these rings to these bases,my scope lacks 3/16" from dropping into the rings. The front bell is hitting the ring itself.Ive tried a pic rail and B-Square medium rings a little bit ago. While this scope fit,the pic rail interferred with shell ejections. Not to mention $85.Im looking for a front ring extension to fit the #35 front base.Ive heard stories of how hard the 700 LA was to scope, but I wouldnt think it would be this hard.Any part numbers or suggestions welcome. Also Im wanting to keep all the mounting hardware the matte finish. Thanks alot.

Google SWAFA and/or Bear Basin.  Either of these companies can give you accurate info for your scope and rifle combo.

I just ran into the same thing with a Monarch scope.I bought a new set of bases and that did the trick.I had the same numbers you have, the bases I bought that worked for me was Leupold 55890.The numbers on the bases are L36 and L46.The L46 has two slots and that allows you to set the front set of rings a little farther back.

I believe Burris Zee rings will work with your Weaver bases..

Can't speak to that particular scope but will say the only scope I've successfully mounted on a LA R700 with the Weaver bases is a Leupold 3-9. It just barely has the room needed to mount. Most scopes have less and don't fit without at least one extension ring, some need front and rear extensions to fit.

These days the only way I mount a scope on a LA R700 is with Burris or Leupold dual/double dovetail bases. Even then with scopes like the Leupold VX-III 2.5-8 which I have on several of my rifles you must use the more narrow Leupold rings. As much as I like them the Burris Signature rings won't work with that scope but will as I recall with the Leupold 3-9.
