No doubt there are bad streets to walk down. I would not want to be spinning my dreidel in a refugee camp on the West Bank. Or flashing a wad of cash on the Strip in Washington DC for that matter.

From the story it appears they had already passed by the miscreants...who sneaked back up on them. I wonder if Israel has a 2nd amendment..but she, not being an Israeli, probably couldn't carry anyway.  Perhaps hiking tourists (especially Americans) should be issued pepper spray..

  Still, I wonder if the attackers shouted "Allah Akbar"..

Just had dinner with my cuz. She is some sort of teacher, teaches English, usually ex-pats living in secured compounds. Basically subcontracts out for 1-2 year gigs all around the world for big $. Anyway, she did it for a while in Nepal. Hikes a lot. Liked Nepal because she could go with a waistpack for a few days, stopping in backpacker hotels. Apparently this is fairly dangerous even in Nepal. American girls die on a regular basis doing this. She is a black belt which we agreed was useless in the real world.

   I know what you mean wreckhog..depending upon how the aggressor is armed, the black belt could be like bringing a knife to a gun fight !

    This brings to mind those 3 college students who decided to hike on the Iraq/Iran border...that was a couple years ago, and 2/3 of them are still in jail.
  I have often wondered..the earth is 26,000 miles in circumference, why did these clowns feel a need to hike where they did ?  They may have been attending a prestiegous college, but obviously that doesn't mean they are brilliant !
