Zoner the 30-30 although a fine round does us no good here in Illinois as we can't use it to shoot deer anyway. We just can't be trusted with rifles here . Hopefully the opening up to rifles that Wisconsin has done in many slug only counties in the last few yrs will help us here in Illinois. I know I got a bunch I'd like to shoot here one day. Kurt

I just wanted to second the imput on the 762 *39.  I got mine by chance and it is the most accurate rifle I've shot period.  I shoot 123 gr rem white box.  My walmart always has em cuz people don't want to blow 13$ for sks plinking.  I know they prob don't have good terminal ballistics.  But they drop dogs.  Good luck with whatever you get.   be safe

I'm going to backup ohiobenito's observations as far as the 7.62x39 Handi's accuracy.  I've had mine for about three years and when I want to feel good about my shooting ability, I take it out to the range.   I can, and have done, 17 shots into a one inch hole in the target.  I reload 123 and 125 grain bullets, using information from the Hodgdon site.

The second most consistently accurate Handi rifle is the 30-30.   This too is a handloaded cartridge and, while it isn't as accurate as the 7.62x39, it's accurate enough that I'd have no concern taking it hunting.

Third most accurate Handi would be my 25-06 Ultra barrel.  Again, handloading makes it a good longer range rifle.

I'm sitting here looking at my Coyote and Wolf killer, out to 400 yards.  My .223 Handi Ultra with ejectors.  I have a Cabela's 3X12 Tactical scope on it, and the turrent for 55gr bullets.  The scope is only dialable out to 300 yards, but I know where it is hitting out at 400.  I too got tired of barrel changing, and got rid of the .223 barrel that had been factory fitted to my 30-06 frame.  I shoot the Nosler Combined Technologies Ballistic Silvertip.  At close ranges I sometimes get a complete pass through on Coyotes, I don't on Wolves.  This load would do fine for Whitetail, since they are smaller and far lighter, than an Alaska Wolf.

Now the 22-250, or the 25-06, would be my choice if I wanted something with a little more oomph.  With the 22-250 I go on out to 500 yards, maximum accurate range for the Burris Ballistic Plex scope I have on it.  With the 25-06 my range is extended on out to 700 yards.

What Is A Veteran?
A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.
