I need a little help on 11-87
« on: December 29, 2010, 04:18:38 AM »
gunnut69, I don't know if this is the right forum or not.  but, I know that you or someone can answer my question.
How do you remove the forearm cap on a remington 11-87?
it's a friends gun and I just want to remove the forearm and check for a plug and then give it a good cleaning with breakfree clp.
thanks in advance.

The cap just screws on.
Lefty loosey Righty Tighty.
If it will not go  strap wrench will fix that.
Be carefull what you spray in the gun.
Don't ask how I know but gun scrubber will eat the neoprene washer in a S&W M100 auto.
Depending on the year the plug can be under the magizine spring cap.  If you see light green under the cap.
Probably there.

thx man.  it must have really fine threads. I turned it a little and it didn't seem to move. I'll try again.
I shake so bad I  wanted to just spray the action and trigger group without taking anything apart.
any recommendations?

before I hit the post button, I did what you said. It came right off.
I also shined a light down the tube and you can see a wood plug way down in there.
so now that I know how to take it apart I can cut a longer plug if it needs it.
thx again.

I know a couple of guys that have replaced that wooden plug with a new plastic one. The reasoning being the wooden one will hold moisture. I don't know if that's so or not, just for your consideration.
