USH 12 or 20 gauge?
« on: December 27, 2010, 04:30:34 AM »
I'm researching now for a slug gun for next deer season.  Any recomendations as to which one would be the better choice on whitetails?  Thanks

really no choice here, the 20 guage beats the 12 in almost every aspect, lighter weight, more accurate, kills just as well, longer range, much less recoil. Only down fall might be less ammo choices. This is my experience, others might not agree.  Mike

How does recoil affect you? The USH are beefy, and will suck up a lot of recoil. The 12 for me needs that, the 20 would be my choice, and both will do the job if you can put the slug where the critter lives.

All the 12ga slug guns are gone from collection. We have had no problems putting deer down with my Tracker II 20ga or my sons 20ga USH. Both are very accurate, and so far we have only had 1 shot kills.

I spent my first 50 years letting myself get banged around by all the big stuff. Like the Amish say, too soon old too late smart. I've found that a 20 gauge will do everything I need to do and then some.

I shoot a 12GA USH but a 20GA is more than sufficient....After all, you are shooting at whitetails, not tanks.  Some people fail to realize how effective a 20GA slug is on a deer.

I recommend you first try firing the 12 USH and make sure you want the abuse. I opted for the 20 USH. I am glad I did. Not a lot of abuse from a 3" and very accurate. See my profile pict ;D
