A cheap .243 with 1/7 or 1/8 twist

Does such an animal exist? Ideally a heavy barrel. Closest I see is an MGM Encore barrel only for $350 (or hopefully more like $200 used).

Or if you want to use a bolt rifle, several make for Savage rifles you can build yourself with the right tools. In that $350.00 range I would figure you could shop long enough to get one put on a Rem as well.

There no factory rifles using that type barrel for the 243 also finding a good use 1/7,1/8 twist barrel could be hard.  What I would  do is get on 6BR site http://www.6mmbr.com/index.html get on the forum and the ads run a listing looking for a use barrel.  There alot of posters that shoot the 6mm VLD bullets you may have to get something rechamber .

Looks good if Encore is your chosen platform.

You can get Savage drop-in barrels with a 1:8 Twist in .243 for the Savage from Shilen or McGowan.  I have one of the Shilen barrels, but I'm waiting for stock for the rifle to get here before I can shoot it.  Prices for the barrels run in the $300 and up range.  You're not going to find a factory rifle with that fast a twist.  Standard is 1:10.  Savage has a non-standard factory twist of 1:9.25.
