what donor barrel/s would work for a re bore to this round?are would you think relining a barrel would work best?

Keep in mind the old std. twist for the 25-20 was good through about the 87gr. lead bullet; the match shooters used quicker twists to stabilize longer, better BC bullets. To prove the theory to me, Ive got a 25-35 custom stub now that shoots the 87's every bit as good as my previous Win. '85 LW yet will shoot 117's too. It is a tack driver with jacketed loads, but Im primarily a cast bullet guy.
I know you cant get a lot of powder in that 25-20 case, but a sub-sonic load will have less wind drift.
FWIW, if I were building one from scratch for a rimmed cartridge, Id go with the .256 based on the .357Mag case with a 1:10 or 1:12 twist. For my needs that case would have the loading density I want, but for somebody who wants more beans the 25-35 is pretty good (though not a 250-3000).

Any of the older slim 158 rifle barrels would be my "go to" for a relining project in this caliber. An old 30-30 profiled barrel would reline in this caliber and be something nice. I would go with a slightly faster twist in the 25-20 just in case i ever got the "jones" to run a 25-35 reamer in it :-\..,but that's just my preference ;)

What about possibly using a .22WMR barrel to rechamber/rebore to .25-20Win?



Or would the steel be too soft?   ???

Unknown metalurgy, as far as I know, and for the expense I would ere to the CF barrel even though the Maggie probably would hold up well enough with cast bullets.

Rimfire barrels are 1137 mild steel, same as shotgun barrels, centerfire rifle barrels are 4140 alloy.

Use a TJ Liner, he offers 10 and 14 twist in 25 caliber. I believe I'd think just line a .410 barrel. You would end up with a nice handling small game rifle.

I did this conversion about 4 years ago, I used one of TJ's liners and a 28ga barrel as the donor. I used acraglass to install the liner, very quick and easy project.  I still shoot it a lot and it is a great small game rifle, very accurate.  I have always intended to do another in 32 s&w but that is a project for another day. Have too many in the works now.

I have a converted #4 Rolling Block, 32 S&W Long. I have another barrel, it will likely end up on a Handi or Contender with .32 Long or Magnum chamber. The .32's seem to be fun and not picky about loads. Mighty quiet too.
