Remington 700 at Academy Sports
« on: January 09, 2011, 12:19:54 PM »
Ok, I was looking yesterday at rifles at Academy Sports, but was being hurried. Academy had the particular rifle I was looking at labeled as 700 ADL, but had an SPS stock on it. I asked the guy if it was indeed an ADL and not the SPS, he assured me it was an SPS. It also had the new Remington trigger on it. I was going to ask him to take it out of the rack so I could "fondle" it, but my wife got a call for us to get to the hospital concering her dad. So, does anyone know if there particular rifles are indeed ADL's of SPS'?

ADL = Blind magazine (no floorplate).  Even with the crappy plastic SPS stocks you can have a blind magazine ADL.  I know that Dick's was selling a varmint model for a while.

SPS is special pupose synthetic.  They can be had in stainless or blued and come in BDL or ADL.  The rifle you were looking at was most likely an ADL SPS, I think most of the blued versions are the ADL, while the stainless is BDL.

Thanks gentlemen. For $349, I think I may have to buy one when they get one in a caliber I want. We are moving to Germany for 4 years, and the guns are going to be at my mom's, but my two boys will need a rifle when we come back. My oldest will be 15, and the youngest 11 when we return to the states. If I can find one in .25-06 or 7mm-08, I think they may follow me home.

I think those 2 calibers will be fine choices.  And that is a heck of a price.  I personally have an Sps buckmasters edition in 7mm-08 stashed away for my daughter when she gets old enough.  I topped it with an older Vari-X II 2-7.  It is a pretty sweet little rifle.  Good luck and happy shooting.

I was looking at the local sporting goods box store and they had a 700 Stainless ADL/SPS for $399.  I really wish I would have bought it, but another .270 wouldn't have done anything for me.  It would have been a good buy just for the action.
