"Very Good" Condition Argentine 1909 7.65 barrels
« on: December 18, 2010, 06:57:46 PM »
Numrich arms lists  29" Argentine take off barresl for 7.65x53 as "very good".

Two questions:

1.  What does this mean?  and

2.  Can a barrel from a 1909 (M-98) Mauser be rebarrled into a Brazilian 1908 (M-98) Mauser?

THe thread size shouldbe the same, only issue is headspace and seeing if the sights line up on top when screwed in.
99% of all Lawyers give the other 1% a bad name. What I find hilarious about this is they are such an arrogant bunch, that they all think they are in the 1%.

Thanks. I hadn't thought about the sights lining up.

Dunno if this is typical or not, but the sights that were on my 1909 Argentine barrel would turn on the barrel. They did require a good bit of force to get them to move, but they did turn, and did not appear to be soldered on. (I found this out while trying various methods of attempting to remove the barrel before borrowing a proper action wrench and barrel vise.) One thing that will happen though, is this will expose bare metal where the barrel was blued with the sights in position.

The M1908 Brazilian and 1909 Argentine receivers should be exactly the same as far as the barrel screwing in and mating up, but its most likely that the headspace will be changed from one receiver to the other.

BTW how much does Numrich list these barrels for?

Here is the link:  They're selling for $44.65 plus shipping I guess.

You have a top of the line Mauser action and it was highly sought for sporters. Why do you want to rebarrel your in the brazilian calibre? You could put any number of modern cartridges on that action.  I'm having a 6.5-06 built as we speak.

I would not get one of the 09 barrels.  The bore diameter can be sketchy and 7.65Arg is really nothing special as a caliber.  If price is the reason, go for Sarcos 7x57 barrel for $40

I ordered mine like this and if there is exterior pitting I dont see it.  Took forever to clean up.  i plan to use it on an FN israeli action.  Heck, thats an 06 length action you got there.  Build a 35 whelen.  The No.2 contour barrels are on sale at ER Shaw.  They will thread for mauser too.  i have several 7.65 Arg and load for it.  i do like my mountain carbine, but i doubt i would ever barrel something after the fact in that caliber.

I have one of the 1909 argy carbine bbls in what I would rate as excellent to almost new condition. Since I already have the dies, brass, and cast and jacketed bullets and a 1937 VZ24 action sounds as a good match. Also have two sportered 1891 rifles, one carbine and a complete 1891 carbine bbld action sitting in a cutdown 1891 stock. I guess you could say that I like the cartridge and the rifles and carbines. First rifle I got way back when was a 1891 argy rifle through the mail when I lived in N.Y. Frank

Repeat after me...."Change is good"...."Dies are cheap"...."Flat shooting cartridges rock"  ;)
I'm havnig my Arg mated with a shilen light varmint barrel chambered in 6.5-06 with a hand checkered walnut stock and a 4.5x14 Leupold VXL scope. I needed a long range rifle. Even if yo stay with the 7.65 the are other new barrels fo about $100, Adams Benett, Shaw etc. why buy used?
