Calvin Warren in Eastern Kentucky
« on: October 12, 2008, 02:33:23 AM »
Does anyone out there have any information on a Calvin Warren born in or around 1840 or 1842.  Mother is names Rebeccah? on census from 1850.  No Male head of house hold listed.  Believed to have come to the Laurel or Rockcastle county area from Virginia.

Thanks
lc

You need to go to www.familysearch.com  I went there and put the name Calvin Warren,  for life event I selected Birth/Christening, for year I used 1841, for year range I selected +/- 5 years (to cover the years you mentioned), then I selected United States for country and left it set for all states.

Scroll through the results.  I found several hits with Rebecca as the mother, they also listed David Warren as the father.  Several show 27 FEB 1841 as Calvin's birthdate in Rockcastle, KY.  Some of them show the lines continuing back on the various lines.  They also show 2 marriages for Calvin.

It looks like there is quite a bit of info to get you started.

Good luck and have fun.  I wish a couple of my lines were this easy.

d_hiker,

Thanks for that link.  I haven't used the net for this research for quite some time.  I'll check that out.

I recently heard that they have added another million names to the Familysearch.com database.  There is a large group of volunteers that are inputting data from various records that have been scanned or microfilmed.  So even if anyone has used the website to search previously, it might be worth your while to try again and see if you get any new information.

D hiker,

Thanks for the heads up on that link.  I've since been able to contact a lady, very distant relative, who has done research on the family for 37 years.  She has a ton of information on a DVD.  Traces us back to early 1600's in VA coming in from England.  Traces the family line back to the Norman invaders and a Dane.

Much thanks,
lc

It sounds like you hit a gold mine.

Now you just need to read through the information and see how it all fits together.  Isn't it nice to see where you fit into the big picture of the family?

Here is another source that I have recently found and have been using a little. www.findagrave.com  The main purpose is to preserve photos and inventory of cemeteries.  I have also found links to other family members while looking through the memorial pages.

From what I have read www.familysearch.com is under going some big changes and sometime this year will roll out a new release or new website.  It will include much more data and helpful tools for family researchers.
