Don't get what's different about this one.  We've had SSN's since most of us were born.  All they're saying is that the numbers will be random now, except that they WON'T issue numbers starting with 666 or 9 or ending in all 0's.  There's a public fear of the numbers "666" (to the level that I've seen people whose total came up to that at a cash register buy something else to change it), so avoiding it in things like license plates and social security numbers helps to keep the peace.

Truthfully, with the importance the number has, a 9 digit numerical code is just not unique enough IMHO to protect someone's identity.  Most of our passwords on the internet are more complex.  We should be looking at AT LEAST 9 digits (12+ would be better - complexity increases exponentially with each digit), and we should use case sensitive alpha and numeric characters.

To put into perspective, as far as possible unique combinations we have -

9-digit numeric code:
1,000,000,000 possible combinations

12-digit case sensitive alpha numeric code:
3,226,266,762,397,899,821,056 possible combinations

Take a gander as to which would be harder to guess.

The 666 thing is interesting.  Know of a ranch in New Mexico named the 666.  The owner had 666 painted on the roofs of all the buildings.

What Is A Veteran?
A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.

I had a Glock the last three numbers were 666 , it was a jam a matic . The first three letters were from the police dept INTs . When it came back it worked but looked like a complete new gun with same ser num.
Why do people say the mark of the beast ? that will be a mark on your fore head ?
If ya can see it ya can hit it !

Forehead or I believe hand.  Also possibly some translation errors as to whether or not it's really "666" or not.  Some evidence supports that the original number as transcribed may have been "616" instead (and a minority of Biblical translations reflect this number instead).

There's also some strangeness in that in Hebrew, much like Roman numerals of the time, numbers and letters were both the same.  The text states something to the effect of the mark being the "number of his name" (him being the antichrist IIRC).   You can add up names to get numbers in old Hebrew.  For instance, the name Jesus added up to "888".  It was fairly common in the ancient world to do this.  A wall in Pompei for example has it inscribed "I love her whose number is 545". There's been speculation that the antichrist the writers were referring to was already an existing person: the Roman emperor Nero.  There is some evidence that they were alluding to him, and not naming him specifically at the time would have been wise to avoid retribution (even though we have it bad today, rulers back then weren't nearly as forgiving).  With that in mind, if you take the Greek form of "Nero Caesar": Nerōn Kaisar, and translate it in Aramaic, it does indeed add up to 666.

Not that I personally believe that the number has any true significance outside of a literary one, but from a point of curiosity it does make for an interesting discussion.

I wonder if they would turn down a check for six hundred sixty six dollars?  Its just a number that follows and preceeds another.

Seems to be the trend with pets these days.  Sheep herds in the USA are being implanted with I.D.'s.  May be a trail run for the future.

FourBee, I wonder if the NAIS is the model for such a program?

If it comes to that, I believe it would be a chip type. Easy to read with a hand held scanner or larger.

Nah - listen closley.  It was as follows:

The good news is, that the government is overhauling how social security numbers are handed out later this year, and will soon make all 9 digits entirely random,
although they still won't assign numbers starting with 9, or with 666 as the first 3 digits, or with 0000 as the last four digits.
