I can understand why some people are against the death penalty.  it is scary to hear of someone spending years on death row only top be released from prison because nee evidence found him innocent. i can also understand why some people think all murderers should be executed.  there are many circumstances that play into a murder convictiion that will decide the sentance.  and unless you work in that field, you can really trully never completely understand it.
It's all a hot mess...........

Powderman we've all stated what we believe.  Knock off with this nonsense.

sss. Nonsense?? These are real people and real cases, I don't make them up. I find it interesting seeing the libs trying to justify supporting, feeding, clothing, and free medical care for life. Maybe you'd care to explain why we as a society should do this?? POWDERMAN.  :o :o

I've already stated that i'm in favor of the death penalty as long as the person is proved 100% to have committed an offense that calls for it.  I think if there is any doubt at all they should not kill them.  Why are you questioning me about having a liberal perspective of it?

My problem is you breaking the popular rule we have around here of if it isn't suitable for your kids to read then don't post it.  I definately wouldn't want my 7 year old reading these articles over my shoulder.  :-\
I'm voting 3rd party in this election by writing in Jesus Christ for president.  Sadly even if this were an option most of you would still vote Republican because "It's a two party system."

I am on the fence about the death penalty. In some cases there is a crystal clear need for it. Face it some people are just plain evil and need killing. If someone is sentenced to life then it should be life at hard labor. I have taken patients out of the County Jail here. The new jail was built because an inmate filed a lawsuit alleging that the old jail didn't have adequate recreational facilities. A judge agreed and ordered the county to build a new one. The new jail has an almost country club feel to it. That is complete BS. You dont go to prison to recreate. The should be laboring from sun up to sun down in order to pay society back for their room and board.
Hi NSA! Can you see how many fingers I am holding up?

pman, without a doubt every case u posted that have read agree that the death penalty is fitting for them.  Do you think though that a man that catches his wife in the act of cheating, and kills her on the spot deserves to be executed? or the guy in a bar fight that gets a little over zealous and accidentally beats a man to death?

Blackstone's formula gives a reason why - consider carefully:

"better that ten guilty persons escape than that one innocent suffer"
Scripture reference, Gen 18:
Quote
Abraham drew near, and said, "Will you consume the righteous with the wicked? What if there are fifty righteous within the city? Will you consume and not spare the place for the fifty righteous who are in it? ... What if ten are found there?" He [The Lord] said, "I will not destroy it for the ten's sake."
Jesus said we should treat other as we'd want to be treated... and he didn't qualify that by their party affiliation, race, or even if they're of diff religion.

SWIFT ONE. You  are right in that every case is different, but in the scenerios you mention I sincerely doubt that they would be found guily of murder, but of a lesser crime. I have posted these stories to show that there are some crimes so heinous that demand death for the guilty. Like Lakota said, some people just need killing. POWDERMAN.  ;D ;D

Yes, they would more than likely be manslaughter charges (especially the bar beating scenario and depending on what caliber lawyer you have for the wife killing ;D ).  But I am also trying to pont out (from a correctional professional point of view) that some cases dont mandate the death sentance.  And I am talking murder cases.  Like I said before, I am in complete agreement with you in the posted instances that I did read that the death penalty is warranted.  And my profession doesnt make me blind to mistakes that the justice system makes either.  I see them more than I would like to.  I will say though, that with the advanced techology that we have today and the stiff penalties issued to LEO for forcing confessions, you dont see the wrong judgment like what may have happened in the past.  But alas, I have walked among offenders (knowing what they did) and asked myself, "Why isnt this guy on DR?"  Those are very few and far between though.

a trial judge always instructs the jury as to what the degrees of murder, manslaughter etc. mean and how they should determine their verdict.
a jury of your peers should make the call.

CHEESEHEAD. I understand your point but I see no wrong in executing those who need it anymore than seeing any wrong in killing a rabid dog. I've said before that each case is different. We have a responsibility to society and our children to give them a safe environment. Can you see any logical reason for some to be on death row 20+ years?? Look at Charles manson, no more than an animal but he still lives, and taxpayers are providing his living for him. He should have been dead many years ago. Some killers may actually be able to contribute to society in some way in the future, others never will and should be made to go away for good. POWDERMAN.  :o :o
