Remington 45-70 405 JSP Factory
« on: January 02, 2011, 10:04:36 AM »
Guys I have been shooting these factory loads out of a Ultra hunter and they have shot great! But it is time to reload and I would like to come close to the same specs as them. I do not have a way of  getting Ft/SEC or Pressures. I just know they are comfortable and accurate. THX.

With the 405 gr Jacketed bullet I would get some IMR 4198 powder and start at 34.0 grs and work up to 38.0 grs These loads are in the ball park of the factory Rem. Someplace between 1350 and 1500 fps. The Rem load is a lower pressure load for the Trapdoor Spiringfield. You should find good accuracy someplace in that powder range.

If you want to shoot a cast lead 405 gr bullet get you some Accurate XMP-5744 powder and start at 26.0 grs and work up to 29.0 grs. My Sharps really shoots with 28.0 grs. at 1400 fps.
