What will it take for dreams to come true?
« on: January 16, 2011, 12:01:20 PM »
I know, I know ... dreams are not true, they are just dreams; but pretty much everything start from a dream and then, the technical savvy work it out.  Now to the dream:

I dreamed of having a varmint hunting pistol based on the Rugerr Mark III (or II) but chambered in any of the the following calibers:
1.  9mm-P
2.  7.62x25
3.  5.7 FN
4.  .22 derived from the 7.62x25
5.  any other varmint centerfire caliber (small cartridge)

-The pistol to have a fixed barrel; same as the Ruger Mk III.
-Drilled and tapped for scope mount like the mk III
-Magazine capable of at least 10 shots
-Capable of converting calibers (all of the above and possibly more)

Is there any technically inclined gunsmith in this site that can say "Yes. it can be done." here.  Made directly by Ruger will be the best but even as a custom gun it would be a great hunting/varmint gun.  Of course, the pistol grip would be the first item to be canged in order to allow a larger magazine to support largerr rounds.  The receiver and other spring types and shape will have to be redesign to support the larger and stronger rounds.  In my opinion, it can be done and it can be a reality.  What say you guys?

Camba:  for #4 check out Ron Reed, one of our sponsors.  He has developed a 22 caliber round from the 7.62x25mm.  You can access his site from either our links page or from his banner (often found at the top of the page here).

The 7.62X25 would be a great critter round. I used a CZ for rabbits years ago and it was dandy. The new HP bullets jave good whitetail potential as well. Just curious how Ruger would handle the cartridge's pressure....

Not exactly.  I was talking more about this (see the web link) but chambered for any or all of the following cartridges:
9mm-P
7.62x25 Tokarev/Mauser
.22x25 Reeder
5.7 FN

It would be nice if they could get chambered in one of those Ruger MK II/III rimfire pistols (of course modified to take these rounds).

The Micro-Mag sounds great but I would still prefer the Ruger MK III/II or AutoMag looking like pistols for varmint shooting and small game hunting with cartridges already availabe.  Based on what I read from the Micro-Mag, the owner does not want to share not even the reloading part (like dies for instance).  That could make a gun very dependent of the manufacturer.

Camba, give it a little time and Freddie Craig will sell the rights to the Micro-mag to a manufacturer.  I used to know him and his talent is in dreaming up unique guns and making them work, then letting someone else manufacture them.
Which lie got to you so that you refuse Him???
