Saw a CVA Scout Today
« on: December 28, 2010, 02:52:14 PM »
I finally saw a Scout today at a local shop.  I think that it was over $300 and was in .44 Magnum.  I was impressed by the gun overall, but enough to buy it.  Other than the price, I did not like the location of the barrel release lever in front of the trigger guard where it is prone to accidental opening when carried.  ?  I had a Savage 24 with the release in the same place and I can say from experience that it can be accidently opened in the field.  Also, the Handi's are USA made, where are the CVA's made?

I might pick one up when they hit the used market just to try it out, but I'm not going to get rid of my Handi's soon!

My 44 mag Scout was priced at $279. The gun shoots so good you won't mind the barrel release at all. ;D
I put a Redfield 3-9x40 on mine and took a nice buck opening day with it.
They're good guns and definitely worth the money.

I know the .243 Scout model can come with sights. The others don't appear to have them.

My 44 mag doesn't have sights, it comes with a scope mount though.

Does the superlight have the lighter contour like the other superlights or is it just 2" shorter? It's hard to tell from the pics. It should make for a decent woods gun with decent sights on it.

I dunno, someone will have to buy one and find out! Kinda hard to do since the Talo is $40 less!

CVAs are made in Spain.

Si Senor ::)

Sorry guys, our economy is so bad, I'm not buying anything I don't need to unless it is made here.  I just cancelled a grill parts order because they were coming from China through Canada.  Now I'm searching for a U.S. made gas grill I can get parts for.  I don't have a problem with the Canada part of the deal, but I sure do have a problem with the China part.....thank you Mr. Nixon.

I bought the Scout in 35 Whelen.  $275 out the door.  The Handi Whelen I bought was $255.  The CVA goes bang every time, the Handi not so much.  The Handi will have to go back to be repaired, then I will see how they compare side to side.  It grieves me to say it, but I'm afraid the Handi won't fare too well, unless it shoots much more accurately than the CVA.

If your Scout shoots as good as mine you'll be a very happy camper. ;) :)
