Lawn ornament cannon?
« on: January 03, 2011, 02:13:07 PM »
I know this is the Blackpowder forum and I'm not really looking for a Blackpowder cannon but I thought I would ask here anyway because you guys know cannons. What I am looking for is a cannon to put on my front lawn as an ornament. I'd like it to look like an old naval cannon but an 1841 6 pounder would be an acceptable substitute. It doesn't have to be capable of firing anything. I would like it to be heavy so it wouldn't be likely to be stolen. I don't care about historical accuracy as long as it looks right. I don't care what is made of - steel, iron, wood, concrete, plastic, fiberglass -whatever as long as it is heavy and sturdy. I'd like it to be somewhere between 4' to 8' long with something around 6' being ideal. I have checked every link on this forum and I have found a few dealers/manufacturers that have something close but the barrels were either too short, too light or too expensive. Since this is only going to be a lawn ornanment I don't want to spend over $500. Is there anybody out there that makes something like what I am looking for?

carmy53 --

WELCOME to the board!

You pose a good question.  There certainly is a place in life for the 'lawn ornament' (in contrast to the 'lawn bomb' cast iron pieces that some fool kills others with).

Zulu carves up some fanstastic ALL WOOD cannons.

BUT, if it looks GOOD, someone will try stealing it - especially if it's in a college town.  (Chain it down.)

Hi Zulu,
I'm in Massachusetts but I want the cannon for my house in Florida. How big are the cannons? And of course, what is the price? If you don't want to post the price you can e-mail me at d_carmichael2001 at yahoo.com
