OT Sheds........Todd got him yesterday, 12/7/10 PIC added
« on: June 09, 2010, 03:10:04 AM »
Update:  Todd got him ;D ;D ;D

Below is a picture of the buck this year with a very happy youngster, Cole Miller and his dad.

Original Story:

Neither Todd Miller, my friend and neighbor, nor myself shot this buck.  Todd, a forester, was working on my place in early Spring and found the left antler.  I was out back about a week later and found the right one only about 75 yards away.  Todd took them over to John Troyer, J.T.'s Taxidermy, just around the corner about two miles away.  Todd surprised me with this last night.

The big boy survived the winter, so hopefully he'll get introduced to a Handi next Fall.

I'm posting this only because I think it is a remarkable find.

If'n we get him this fall :-\

I've got a logger out back now doing a wildlife management select cut.  He came in a bit ago and told me he thought I had the best deer acreage he's seen in the county.  It kinda makes me feel good, cause that's why we bought the place 20 years ago.

Todd got him with his ML this afternoon on my place.  Antlers are identical, although the angle they were set at on the mount is too wide.  He took pics, and I'll post them tomorrow, side by side.

It looks like computer routed hardwood  J.T Taxidermy, Johnny Troyer, Engadine MI.  906 477-6116.  Johnny did the work.  I'm sure he can tell you where to get one.

Pete, the mount looks good!!

I like the wood euro mount very much!!

I too have been using it recently as the full head or shoulder mounts have gone up so high. I always liked the look and now have a few of my own. If I shot Mr. Big one day I'll likely still fork over and get the shoulder mount. But until then these European mounts work just fine!!

I shot a nice 9 point the last Saturday of ML season here in N.Y. He knocked both antlers of in the process. I bought one of the plastic European mount kits. Here is a pic

He didn't go in the freezer. I found a wound on his right hind quarter, figured I would loose that quarter. The processor called and said it had infection throughout its body. He wouldn't have made it through the winter, so I guess I put him out of his missery.

I guess we all have accidents, but there are a lot of slob hunters around too.  I sat in a bar in Tuxedo Park, NY one time years ago and heard a "deer hunter" say he had two "sound shots".  Scared the crap out of me.

Yep big difference between taking a running shot and just slinging lead at running deer. Whats the old saying, 1 shot yes 2 shots maybe 3 shots probably not.

The nicest thing about owning 120 deer acres is that I control who's hunting on my land.  I hunted public land one morning many years ago and was home by ten in the morning and the public land was over 100 miles away.  It was nuts.  Too many city slickers swinging rifles around.
