killed a hog this weekend.
« on: January 06, 2004, 10:53:43 AM »
this past weekend my 16yo son and i went hunting in north florida.  he had shot a 120lb pig, opening day of this season,(his first)
i brought my contender carbine in .357mag. and took a 90 yd shot at a big boar. 160 lbs. the shot was broad side and broke both sholders then exited the off side. i was shooting 185gr lbt, cast bullets at around 1700fps. the pig flopped ends at the shot, and squealed loudly, then dropped! he kicked a few times, but died before i got to him. i was really impressed with the bullet performance. i have shot many pigs with heavy 45 colt loads, most of 20 including this one.  and they kill faster than anything iv,e seen! even full caliber shotgun slugs! this was my first with the cast .357 but it wont be the last! it,s very accurate in my carbine, is not so bad for recoil, as the 300gr 45 slugs kick pretty hard at 1750fps.  i,m not sure this pig knew the diffrence!

That is pretty amazing.  I would have never thought that caliber at that distance would do the job so well.  Congrats.
