Looking Forward to Deer Season
« on: May 21, 2011, 01:07:31 PM »
Really liking my .270 ADL.  It started out as a plastic stocked matte synthetic j-lock without it's sights.  Dumped the plastic and the j-lock.  The stock has been used some in a former life but the grain is amazing.  Sorry there's no Fresca can in the pic.  I'll try to get one in next time.

It's a 22".  It's actually the worst shooting centerfire rifle I own.  That will be sorted out before deer season.  This was from a clean barrel and before I lightened the trigger pull to 2lbs and got rid of the j-lock.  I believe a set of Talleys would make a big difference.

It is a 100 yard group.  It shoots the 150s better than the 130s.  I want to try some 140s over some IMR-4350 or IMR-4831.

Swampy,

I thought you just loved those H&R, 20ga shotguns.  ;) you used to use them for everything.

They are survival guns.  Deer hunting is another story.

 Swampman,

That is a beautiful rifle.    For the price, I believe that the Model 700 ADL, particularly those made in the mid-1980s with walnut stocks, are one of the most under-rated rifles in America.

Unless I am wrong, anyone who is concerned about the Model 700 trigger issue (not to be debated here), can simply yank the factory trigger and install a Timney.

Regards, mannyrock

They are easy to replace.  I just spent 10 minutes adjusting the Walker trigger down to about 2lbs.  Anyone can do it with the help of several videos that are on the net.  I only adjust for poundage and leave the other screws alone.

I've been shooting my bow everyday, running a mile, and losing weight.

I also have a 270ADL, though mine has a B&C stock.  While shooting what I thought were 130 bullets one day, the gun shot bbetter than normal.  I then found I was shooting 140 Sierra - which I have settled on.  Though I have and use other 700s, I think the 270 with 140 Sierra bullets is all I need for eastern deer.  A 7-08 700 LVSF is another (non-BDL) that is a tack driver.  It has the j-lock, but doesn't both me.  I doubt I can even find the lock ket.
