Need a holster suggestion for 3" SP101
« on: January 13, 2011, 02:35:38 PM »
Just picked up this nice 357 revolver today and am thinking of getting my CCW back after letting it expire about 6 years ago.  Here's the catch, I'm a lefty.   Looking for a nice SOB or IWB holster geared for the lefty.

thanks,
Ian

Next morning edit.  After some googling, I think I am going with the AKJ Concealco IWB

Have the same gun and barrel length as yours, but with a bobbed hammer. Wanted a strong side, high rise model. Opted for an open top leather pancake holster (#6200) from MASTER'S LEATHER. It was designed for the S&W "J" frames, but I found it fit perfectly! Models with a retention strap may not work, as the action lengths differ slightly. Didn't affect my choice, as the hammer spur on my revolver has been removed. Hope this helped. Thanks... I ordered that AKJ this afternoon as well as a Wolff spring kit from Brownells.  I hear the 10lb main spring helps the double action pull tremendously.  We shall see.  The holsters are made to order, so their estimate is a month on that.

I don't know how often you carried concealed prior to your permit expiring. Some folks carry "religiously", while many others do so only when they feel the need. As a retired L.E.O., I tend to carry most of the time. I feel .357 SP101's are great for the job, as they are small enough to conceal with the changing seasons and afford plenty of stopping power. They also balance well, and their increased weight helps with controllability. Don't be surprised if you discover that one good holster isn't enough. I have to use several of them in order to remain properly concealed under differing modes of dress. It's not unusual for some to use many more.

Back then, if I was awake, vertical, and not going to or coming from work (airport), you could safely bet your paycheck that there was a Glock 23 in a Galco IWB keeping my kidney company.  I still have one of those fanny packs that hold a pistol and extra mag in a easy access sub-compartment.

Now, I just want to be able to carry occasionally without being a public spectacle.  I carried openly a few times and got too many odd looks.  A buddy of mine was asked to leave a restaurant once while openly carrying.
