Factory rear sight question
« on: January 16, 2011, 04:41:49 PM »
Can anyone tell me how the rear sight is attached on a SB2-457 for example? Is it D&T or soldered?

Thanks!

Depends on when it was made, older rifles with the proprietary H&R sight had a single hole mounting, later models have the two screw Williams WGOS, both 6-48.

Tim, Does this mean that any barrel made after 2000 will have the two mounting holes or is it earlier models that mount the williams peeps?
It's not the same or parrallel the SB2 models that are available for the barrel accessory program is it? -g

I don't know when they switched to the WGOS sight, I ordered my first 45-70 accessory barrel in 2004, it has two holes tho, although I ordered it without sights, just a scope rail. The older used barrel that I bought later has one hole and the front sight mount hole is a 3-48 instead of 6-48.

So ordering a new barrel from the accessry program, say a talo 357 be safe for mounting an aftermarket williams rear sight without modifications or tapping using the 6-48? -g

It comes with sights, should be the same WGOS sight, but maybe someone that has one could confirm that.

I've seen that thread. The new barrels (Talo) from the accessory barrels program come with WOGS peep sights? -g

They come with the WGOS, which is an open sight mounted on the barrel, the WGRS is the peep sight that comes on the 45-70 BC, if you want the WGRS, H&R sells it for $25 shipped, but I don't know if they offer it with an accessory barrel. The front sight will be too low for it more than likely because the WGRS mounts in the two rear scope mount holes on the chamber which is higher than the barrel sight.
