Price Check G2 Frame - Used Contender Frames
« on: January 11, 2011, 10:01:12 AM »
Whats the going rate for a new G2 frame and what have you seen older Contender frames going for in your area? There seems to be lots of barrels, but frames are scarce.

centershot,

The good ol days are gone when you found old style Contender frames for 150 and I've bought several for that.  What I've found now is old style frames going 225-275, G2's on GunBroker are 375.  I don't have a G2 all mine are old style, you can contact Ed he may have some, (board sponser) sometimes members will have them up for sale here, last one I bought here I think was in the 260 range.

Good old days are gone.........ain't that the truth. Used stuff goes for nearly new prices. I may end up forgoing the TC's all together due to price alone. They sure look like fun, but new barrel prices in the $300+ range and a new frame in the $350 range - they are no bargain. According to gunbroker the used ones are only 10% less than new, if that.........I'll hold out and try to find a nice used one for a good price, but it doesn't look very promising.

If S&W stops making Contenders the price will really jump.  If you want to get into Contenders now would be the time.  I just bought a frame with a Laminated Rifle stock for $325.00 Deals are out there if you look.  But I don't think they will be around for long.

Might be worth a call to T/C to see if they any left in the custom shop. I picked up a Stainless/Gold engraved Encore last week.

Well, I've got 17 barrels and four frames and not one of them was bought new.  For the price of new TC barrels I see used custom SSK or MGM.  There are still good deals galore on used TC barrels.  I'll stick with that as long as it lasts.

I just bought an old Contender frame and furniture for $125.  It was in fantastic shape, in the original box with manual.  I'm thinking I got a steal.

I think so too, lenny!  The best deal I got was a few years ago a complete Contender '79 vintage with 44 mag bull barrel for $250.  This was at a gun store.  I think many gun stores who don't handle lots of Contenders will move them if they get half a chance, so there's some room to dicker on the price (this one was marked $450).

I got a '75 vintage frame here on GBO a few months back for $180 shipped + $30 to my gun pimp for $210 total.  I have 2 contenters with 5 barrels and 1 Encore with just 1 barrel.  I gonna fix that.  Always on the lookout for another Contender frame.

Honestly I rarely see contenders local where I live.  I go to any gun shows with in driving distance and very seldom see Contenders or barrels at any of them.  The internet has been my best sourcing location for TC's.  I have 4 frames now and 12 barrels.  I have a few more barrels I want to get still.  To me that is part of the enjoyment of collecting guns.  The hunt!   ;D
