NEF Questions
« on: January 11, 2011, 11:15:43 AM »
I just purchased a NEF single shot with the same problem and after calling H&R (who owns NEF now) they told me they could not do a barrel replacement because it was a NEF not a H&R even though their webpage says that any serial number starting with N they can do which is what I have. So I wanted to get a 10ga barrel and now do not have a place to get it. Does anyone know if there is an aftermarket barrel or a place to get used ones? Also when yall are saying silver solder are you talking about the silver solder that you use on A/C lines?

Thank You
Jay

Welcome Jay! I split your question from the other discussion so as to not hijack that thread.  ;)

Someone is confused, you, them or both!  ;D First of, they still service NEF products even tho they no longer use the name. http://www.hr1871.com/Brandtransition/

Concerning 10ga barrels, they can only be fitted to an SB2 10ga shotgun frame, they're too big at the breech to fit an SB1 shotgun or SB2 rifle frame, if you read the note on the 10ga barrel section, you'll see that, you don't say what NEF you bought.

10 gauge shotgun frames can only be fitted with the 10 gauge shotgun barrels listed below. H&R 1871, LLC will only fit the listed barrels to 10 gauge frames manufactured by H&R 1871, LLC with the New England Firearms brand name.

I will call them again but I was told when I called that NEF outsourced the making of their receivers so H&R could not refit any NEF receivers with new barrels. I have a SB1 and it has a serial number of NA100621 which is suppose to be eligible for the program. So go figure.

But the question I had for that thread that I guess is relevant to the thread is about the silver solder. I am fairly new to gun repairs but have loads of experience in other areas so just kinda curious what silver solder was being discussed.

Also kinda confusing to come back to the thread and not find my post. Being I'm a new member I guess I will know I have to search for my post in the future.

With exception of the last sentence in your reply, your questions were off topic, that's why your reply was split, many boards will just delete such replies, I chose to just move it and provide answers, if you stay on topic, your replies won't be moved or deleted.  ;)

Concerning the NA frame, that was made in 1986 which does not fall in the years they'll provide service which are 1987 and later, it has nothing to do with being NEF. H&R Inc went bankrupt in 1986, so NA frames were made in the transition time, whether the person you talked to was correct or not, you should find out on the next call. H&R had '96-'99 frames outsourced also, but they'll still fit shotgun barrels to them.

Additional barrels may be added to firearms of our manufacture since 1987 only, with a serial number that begins with N or H. We do not install additional barrels on any other manufacturers firearms.

Just got off the phone with H&R and they said the website is incorrect that only guns made after 2000 can be fitted with extra barrels.

Then they've changed their policy or you got another CS employee that is misinformed, it's not unusual to get misinformation from them, unfortunately you could call again and get another answer.  :'(  They won't fit any high pressure barrels that are marked with an * on the accessory barrel page to pre-2000 SB2 frames, that part is correct.
