Dry fire?

I checked the FAQs, Handi Basics and did a search on "dry fire."  My instruction booklet said not to dry fire my gun.  I picked up my .45-70 Handi in Dec. '10.  My search turned up threads up to '07 on the matter.  Is it still considered damaging to dry fire my gun even when I have a .45-70 snap cap in the chamber?  Why would this be so on a newly manufactured gun?  I safely dry fire my other guns (with the exception of my rimfires) with snap caps in place and have never had a problem.  Is this an issue unique to the Handis?  Thanks.

Dry firing using a snap cap isn't a problem, some here will state they've never had a problem dry firing on an empty chamber, others have broken the transfer bar or firing pin doing so, but using a snap cap or facsimile, IE a spent round, homemade snap cap, will insure there's no problem.

Great, thanks Tim.  Of course, I was dry firing the gun BEFORE I read the booklet so I'm just glad my ingrained habit of using snap caps paid off.   ;D
