The flowers are blooming and birds are singing. Of course I jest, but getting the Remington Speedmaster back home and working is just as good.
Too bring some back to speed on this:
I have a Speedmaster that I put a Leupold 4-12x50 scope on. I had the scope mounted by a Good gunsmith that I have used on many projects.
It would not zero and his conclusions were that the barrel and receiver were not parallel.
I sent the rifle back to Ilion---Could not duplicate customers concern using a slave scope.
I called Leupold----they said to send it back and they would check the scope--no problem. Then he said something that I was already thinking.
He said that I may want to first take the rifle and scope to another gunsmith that did a lot of scope work. His thoughts were that it may need different rings or reversing the rings or shimming the scope.
These were all things that you folks suggested---me, I don't know beans about this stuff.
I took it to a large Houston Gunshop--Carter's Country--that does a lot of scope installation and such---they have been doing this for 50 years around here.
They had it back on and zeroed on the range in an hour while I waited.
Now, I am not mad at Vandenberg, who originally installed the scope. All folks have their limitations and scoping is not a normal part of his business--I am thankful he tried.
Life is good and the birds will sing again when this lousy weather breaks and i can pop some caps again.
Blessings
