AH Fore arm

Personally I like the Alex Henry Style fore arm. It has a classy look and fits the Ruger #1. For the past 2 years I rebuild a 243 #1B 26"to a 6.5x284 by re-boring. To loose some weight I milled the barrel octagon, shortened the B fore arm and carved it to the AH style and recheckered
the new shape. The rifle turned out rather well and shoots and handles very well with its lighter weight. Accuracy is an outstanding 1/2" at 100.
The rifle also features a Kepplinger single set trigger.

Note: I don't think a Schnabel fore end looks well on Ruger #1

Fred M,  Beautiful job !!  Love the work you did on reshaping the forend. I love the Alex Henry forends - have a .25-06 26" No.1B that I'd love to put the shorter forend on - just hesitant to do any cutting/sanding on the "B" forend - I'd hate to mess it up.

If you're ever in in mood - I'd love to have you redo one for me. Great work!! Dan3

Because of my bad eye sight I have pretty well given up on stock work. The checkering on that forearm was done by a friend of mine who recently had a stroke and he can't do anymore checkering either. Him and I are just getting too old for good work. Doing work on stocks without checkering is just poor
and amaturish, and poor checkering is even worse.

Reshaping a B forearm is realy quite easy and simple so any good stockmaker could do it. You could also get Ruger to supply you a new one, but you would have to send the gun to Ruger. I did rebarrel a 243 B to a 7x57 send the barreled action to Ruger and they installed an AH forearm and matched it nicely.

Ruger supplied AH forearm on a 7x57 take off Barrel. A very accurate shooting rifle.

Fred, Thanks for the reply...I know what you're saying - gettin' old myself. I've thought about trying to reshape a No.1B forearm....OR....maybe just switch out the forearm from an unused No.1 .45-70 that has the Alex Henry version. Thanks again. Dan
