CONVERSATIONS IN A CAFE

I have on varied occasions had the great opportunity to visit small towns and have conversations with locals in a varied number of places.
Now i admit to strikeing up conversations with a wall--so I am used to just start talking.
W Texas and New Mexico are some great places. Those boys can spin a yarn and are pretty friendly. Lots of wisdom in those old boys.
East Texas is a good place also.

There are places and folks just like that all over the country, especially in small town rural America.  Every small town has the regular hangout, coffee clutch, or as we call um here, liars benches.  When you become a regular member you know you've arrived.   ;D

Come on up and sit a spell at our little dinner.I'm there every morning from 6:00 to about 8:00.We talk about every thing and every one.We used to talk about wild women and how much we used to drink.Now we talk about all the ailments we have.Kinda like this forum here.LOL.Can't be more than a 10-12 hour drive.My Sis lives in Alvarado,Tx.and takes me about 5 1/2 to get there.You'd be most welcome.Our crowd is from 30 some things to 80 somethings.

I always take the oportunity to talk to folks where ever I go. Besides local history and current events it's the best way to learn where and what the fish are biting on and where the best hunting is.  :D

Seems like the old country cafes are the same all over the country.  My neighbor down the road remarked that " we all know what everybody is up to, but just stop in here from time to time to see who got caught".

I think you guys are missing the big picture. Greasy Spoons, Truck Stops, Hole in the Wall Cafes and Mom and Pop restaraunts are the best places in the world to eat.  I talk better with a full belly!  ;D

I worked at a rural town gas station for a few months before the towel head bought it, and it was the regular morning hang out, and there was some characters there now!  It was mostly farmers that came to shoot the bull about doings out and about the community, maybe some farm news, seed prices blah blah,  but occasionally you would get to hear a story from the past.  I always loved to hear these stories and would listen with great intent.  One old guy basically lived there and he had some great stories, saddly he is not with us anymore.

 yep,conversation in a cafe is or can be interesting..i use to run mom an pops cafe in nashville
tenn.. id take the night shift [7a to 7p] and it was just dn the street from the grand ole opry..
the night crowd in the mid 60s was colorful.. plus, i got to wait on people like porter wagner
loretta,ernest tubb an most of the performers would drop by occassionally..i was about 20, so it was
 also educational ..
 that cafe and linebaughs the other cafe i worked at ,,are long closed now ,but it was a
time i ll never forget..
 mabe cafe work would be interesting again,,in my retirement..might give it a try,or at least find one to hang out in ,a little .. i think you may have planted an idea in  whats left of my brain,william....god bless

I was sort of amazed to find out the local Spit & Whittle club seems to have moved off the sidewalk and into McDonalds.  The senior coffee is okay and there are always open tables in the early morning.
