Come on, you mean to tell me that nobody at all is hunting upland game right now? Granted, it's -10 right now where I'm at in Iowa, but down south them quail covies gotta be together yet! Let us know, we want to hear reports! Graybeard assigned me with the mission of this forum getting some activity, so I'm trying my best, give me some help!

Your right Selmer it is slow. We're all done for the year in western Colorado.Duck and goose ends Sunday, but the weather has been beautiful, 40's and sunny, not much action.All the upland ended the first part of the month, it's almost time to break out the fly rods and the harleys!! There will be new pups to start this spring and summer, come visit the hunting dog forum and give us a hand.

Well, lets see if I can speed it up a bit! Last weekend I went to central Calif to shoot at a private pheasant club. OK, they were planted pheasants but the main objective was to give a new dog some field experience. My buddy has a german wire hair that he recently got back from being trained and we decided to give him (Max) some practice. Talk about bred in instinct or good training or whatever, but that dog worked beautifully! It truly is wonderful to watch a good dog out doing his thing! The shooting was secondary to watching Max point up birds. The next day we went pig hunting and while we were field dressing a pig we let the dog out and away he went up the hillside and locked up on a valley quail! That's about all I got till this coming weekend where I'm planning to hunt up some valley quail near Santa Maria, Ca.

Give us some info and maybe a picture of your buddies wire hair for the hunting dog forum. We've got a guy who ordered a spring pup from a Wisconson breeder for this spring. We'd love to see the dog and get some insight into how he works. Tx

We have a couple of guys that come out from the D.C. area every fall to South Dakota for a week to hunt ducks and pheasants with us. They both run German short-hairs and they enjoy working with the dogs more than hunting the birds. It's fun to work over a godo dog, we've never owned one because we always have lived in town and we didn't think we should have one where it wouldn't have good space to run. I wish I had some digital pics, I'll have to get some next fall, it's great to be able to go shoot four limits of green heads in the morning and four limits of pheasants in the afternoon, all within a few miles. I love SD! Too bad I had to move to Iowa for my job...

Not many coveys encountered this year for me. I've done quite a bit of stomping around on our club lease and have only busted up two coveys. Our lease borders a hunting club that specializes in game bird management. Usually we have a bleed over of birds from their property to ours but this hasn't been the case this year. It seems that small game numbers are drastically down and I think they've resorted to using "dropped" birds. I'm sure this isn't helping along with the fact that nest raiding predators such as coons and skunks are at an all time high. I went out last week when we had six inches of snow (a rarity here in Tenn) and saw more bobcat tracks than I've ever seen before. I've shifted to predator hunting now that deer season is closed, with any luck I may be able to take out some of the above "problems"
