MSNBC Nightly News declares 80% of firearms in Mx come from US
« on: December 14, 2010, 06:51:15 AM »
Yes, they are still beating this tired old horse.

I saw this last night (12.13.10) on NBC nightly news and watched as these Mexicans used hammers and blow torches on what appeared to be Romanian AKs and other miscellaneous firearms, while NBC's slanted narrator spewed vitriol that sounded like Michael Bloomberg wrote the teleprompt script.  Where as before the figure was 90%, they used a figure of 80% in this article.  I guess they aren't aware that this was debunked awhile back, and that the figures are grossly off.  I guess they figure if you tell a lie enough everyone will believe it.

So what. The US makes good arms too. The problem is not where the guns come from or how many. That is not important.

I personally sell 80% of my guns to Mexico.  That was probably what they meant...

Yes all those fully automatic rifles were funneled in through the US. I actually believe that those drug lords went into the local gunstore and puchased them. No back ground checks or transfer taxes. Do you really think the government is not going to get its share?

They do vigorously police their southern border.

So what. The US makes good arms too. The problem is not where the guns come from or how many. That is not important.
What we see is the product of prohibition. We saw it before.

Here's why 'so what'.  Cause these liberal lies may lead to restrictions and new regulations.

"The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) is moving to require federally licensed firearms retailers to report multiple sales of modern sporting rifles beginning January 5, 2011.
Specifically, the ATF requirement calls for firearms retailers to report multiple sales, or other dispositions, of two or more .22 caliber or larger semi-automatic rifles that are capable of accepting a detachable magazine and are purchased by the same individual within five consecutive business days."

http://www.firearmstruth.com/2010/national-shooting-sports-foundation-atf-to-require-multiple-sales-reports-for-long-guns

"To stem the flow of guns to Mexico, federal firearms regulators are proposing an emergency requirement that certain gun dealers along the southwestern border report bulk sales of so-called assault weapons beginning as soon as January."

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/12/16/AR2010121606825.html

I saw on the news that this new regulation is a direct result of the so called Drug War in Mexiko, and is directly related to these over blown figures the liberals and Calderon' have been postulating.

If we just say 'so what' when these lies are sent across the air waves, we may end up waist deep in restrictions.

The liberal anti-gunner is always looking to exploit an opportunity to push more anti gun initiatives.  I was curious about how long it would be before the media jumped all over the 33 round Glock magazine used in the AZ shootings.  Well it didn't take long, did it?  And now what are they wanting to do?  Another ban on hi-cap mags, but this time permanent, with no expiration.

But, so what.  Who cares, right?

Does that include the large number of m-16 / ar-15 type rifles, as well as handguns and shotguns that are stolen from the Mexican military and police?  Cant give credible numbers per say, but I heard from an recently retired Federal Agent friend of mine who worked the border that its thousands per year...

Larry,

From my feeble understanding of it, the firearms you are referring to are definitely contributing to the number of firearms involved in the drug war (such as Mexican soldiers going AWOL with their firearms), but are being counted as being brought in illegally from the US, either by straw buys, or the liberal's favorite - the gun show loop hole.  But then when they show these captured weapons, they show tables of grenade launchers, RPGs, full auto assault rifles and sub machine guns.  When was the last time you saw a RPG at your friendly local gun show?  They really have no conception of the truth.  The truth is exactly what you just said - these items are coming from other sources - ie the Mexican military, mafia gun dealers in Europe funneling them in through Mexico's porous southern border, etc.  I have no doubt that there are some weapons being illegal taken to Mexico, but not in numbers large enough to sponsor what the media call a 'War'.  We're talking firearms alone in the tens of thousands, not including the grenades and other military paraphernalia which simply isn't available 'over the counter'.  I simply find it incredulous that these numbers all come from FFLs along the southern US border.  And since these numbers have already been debunked, the fact that a liberal media outlet continues to spew it merely shows they are trying to brain wash the sheeple, whom unfortunately - will believe anything.

I have spoken to ATF personnel who have been in Mexico and have worked the border area dealing with the flood of illegal arms into Mexico.  Each one said the arms they are seeing are being manufactured overseas.

Their reason behind this statement is that there are no serial numbers on the firearms.  Depending on what country, there are laws that govern the manufacture of arms, so the serial number may be on the barrell, slide, frame, or all parts.  These weapons don't have any numbers, not ground off, just not ever serialized.  Why don't we hear about that on the news?!?
There is nothing that evil men fear so much as a good man who knows what is right and is willing to fight and die to see it done.

http://www.examiner.com/gun-rights-in-national/more-information-on-atf-walking-guns-across-mexican-border

Was the ATF "walking guns across the border" to pad the statistics included in their report?

The cartel and dealers look for other criminals who do not yet have a record to make straw purchases for them. I wonder how many are "legal residents" with alien firearms cards making the purchases, how many are stolen, how many are acquired from private sales, etc, etc. Sure would like to see a breakdown of the statistics before its reported. Just for the sake of being "fair and balanced" to coin a phrase. Most of the reports are going to be of the one sided slant being guns are evil, than a report detailing criminal actions of deporting without a license, purchased by folks with intent to commit, let alone conspiracy to commit. This coloring american gun manufacturers/owners as somehow responsible is media bravo sierra slant and nothing more.

Too add........ how many are part of the automatic AK's that china exported to So America? How many are arms that OUR gov't gave as foreign aid to the mexican police and military, that were stolen by corrupt officers and officials. The same who act as coyotes and use hummers to transport drugs and people across the border. How many times do we hear about our border patrol having to dis-engage because they are outgunned. I remember one report where the mex hummer was using their .50 cal.  >:(    >:(

What amazes me is how everyone is so obsessed with our gun rights. How is legislation here going to do anything about the criminals in Mexico. No media outlet will put the blame where it belongs and that is the corrupt Mexican government. It is always the fault of the Law Abiding American. Poor Corrupt Mexicans. Just take the guns from the Americans and the problem will go away..............
