French cannons, buried by the Spanish at Fort Saint Louis in 1689, were uncovered on a private ranch in Victoria County by archeologists from the Texas Historical Commission, finally confirming the site's identity. Standing in the unit is the late Curtis Tunnell, former THC Executive Director. Photo courtesy of the THC.

Anyone know anything about this?

They are La Salles cannons.  A rancher saw part of one sticking out of the ground while riding fence.  That's what was dug up.  They are currently undergoing restoration in Victoria, TX. and can be seen there.
Some fishermen drug up a bronze barrel in their net in Matagorda Bay a number of years ago then lost it before they could get it to shore.  Close to there is where La Salles ship was discovered and another bronze barrel retrieved.
